Taehyung is half-awake when his phone starts ringing on the nightstand next to him. He heaves himself up on one elbow before reaching for it and putting it to his ear without checking the display first. There are only ever two people who call him anyway; his dad or his best friend.

"Yep?"

Utter chaos greets him.

"Shh, Ry, daddy's on the phone", Namjoon says, sounding aggravated, "No, no! Not my tie, baby, don't..." he takes a shuddering breath, "Oh God, I'll have a panic attack."

Taehyung holds the phone away from his ear as Namjoon's son Ryong lets out a banshee-like scream that only a three year old in the middle of a temper tantrum can execute.

"Oh God, Oh God, Oh God." Namjoon mumbles somewhere in the distance.

A few moments of rustling and shuffling on the other end passes. Taehyung takes the opportunity to roll over to his back, careful not to bump into the person sleeping next to him, and slip his boxers on.

"Do you need me to call an ambulance?" he asks after a minute, amused, "Anticimex?"

"Oh! Taehyung," Namjoon returns to the phone, the screaming in the background reduced to some sort of whining mixed with hiccups, "It's fine, I just... " Namjoon chuckles awkwardly, "No sleep, and Seokjin is out, and... " he clears his throat, "Anyway, what's up?"

"Oh, nothing much," Taehyung replies, untangling himself from the sheets before crawling out of bed, "Just got a mild case of tinnitus."

"You and me both."

Namjoon and Seokjin's son was born via surrogate almost four years ago. It was quite a dramatic night, not only because it happened in the middle of a late summer thunderstorm but also because the surrogate went into labor five weeks prior to the due date. In the end, everyone was fine, and the baby was a very welcomed miracle for the couple.

Taehyung might think Ryong is cute every now and then, especially when he is sleeping peacefully. In general though, kids aren't really his thing. He keeps a safe distance away from them, with his friends' son being the only exception.

"What are you doing tomorrow?" Namjoon wonders, "Change of plans, we aren't going to Thailand anymore because Ry threw a fit and wouldn't stop screaming in my ears over not wanting to step foot in the airport."

"Okay. I don't have any plans for tomorrow, I think," Taehyung walks up to the window facing the busy uptown street, "What are we doing instead? Road trip?"

Namjoon is distracted, whispering softly with Ryong. Taehyung picks up something along the lines of "Bunny" and "Ice cream" from the kid, followed by some muttering when Namjoon tells him he'll have to wait until after lunchtime.

"Mmh, we're going to Las Vegas instead."

Taehyung thinks he knows where his best friend is getting at, and he's not too into it. In fact, he might even hate it a bit.

"Seokjin's parents live there," Namjoon continues, "You know, in that villa where we took last year's anniversary photos and you threw up?"

Taehyung snorts.

He had gotten food poisoning from some bad shrimp and ended up emptying his stomach all over Seokjin's mom's favorite rose bush in the luscious garden. It was not a weekend he wanted to remember, his stomach turning at the mere mention of it.

"I would've remembered it without you bringing up the last part."

"It's amusing," Namjoon hums, "Pack a bag and be there in the evening. Seokjin's parents are abroad for the month, so no need to worry about that."
