His face was flushed.
1..2..3...
Mouth parted, gasping.
7...8...9...10...
Chubby cheeks. Rosy lips. He was smiling as he gazed up. His captivating dimples stole my attention from his teeth gate - a small space at the front where his two incisors must have been.
A healthy, cute second grader.
11...12...13
His eyes gleamed happily as he burst into the class along with his team mates. A group of gaily living close friends.
"May I come in, Ma'am." He chirped in his sweet voice. A chorus followed by his fellow mates.
17...18...
Mrs. Stuart peered from above her round heavy soda glasses, her eyes magnified through the thick glass comically, at our loud intruders. She huffed through her tiny nose and bleated in her pitched, scratchy voice. Slowly, very slowly.
"What's your reason again boys ? Late from games again, one mark reduced from todays class test. Go. Go. Go. Go to your seats. Don't be late again."
22...23...
Pitter patter. Little feet scurrying across the classroom floor. They chatted and chortled among themselves, joking how our glaring teacher looked like an owl.
146...147...148...
Chairs scraping, their bums thumping the chair as they dropped their weight onto the polished chairs.
261...263...
Their books tapped on the hollow desks as they settled.
374...375...376...
All in all, they took 5 minutes 26 seconds. Nooo. I'm wrong again. I counted till 376. Then it must be, uhm, 376 divided by 60 is equal to...
Ah, 6 something....blah....Daddy's not here to chatter away how brainless I am.
My eyes found our beloved teacher, Mrs. Stuart, as she opened her mouth again.
"Ugh, Ugh, Yeeugh, all these noise is giving me a headache. And you stink boys." She snapped her mouth shut realising her mistake. A while ago, one of us complained to his parents that an old lady teaching math insulted him in front of the class when he was covered in mud. She said he looked like an ugly monster. He argued that a senior boy pushed him, but all she did was make him cry.
All frustrations of her unmarried life made the old woman bitter like a bitter gourd. Yuck!!! We moved from one question to another, our beloved teacher bickering away making some girls go wu wu and red embarrassed faces and some boys go humph with red angry faces.
And finally the bell went shrilling, through the silent corridors of the JK Elementary School, like my nephew when he was born. And students filled out into the vast corridors, chatting happily. I stuffed my books neatly into my new bag, zipping slowly and carefully as I didn't want to destroy my birthday present gifted by my brother.
He's fifteen, Damien Black. My dad said he'll be given the Black Enterprises Pvt. Ltd. and I'll get the Black Hospital when we reach the age. My eldest brother, Conan Black, age 27 manages a chain of hotels and resorts under the Blacks and the JK University. We're a well known family. Our forefathers have created quite a large name in politics, business, sports, arts...well, look into any field, and you'll see a Black. A black mark till now is that Conan is married to James Nathaniel, his former best friend and to Lily Carmichael, his ex-teacher. He's in a polyamorous relation. They started dating a few years back and when Lily was conceived, they decided to marry. Now my cute little nephew is still a toddler, Nathan, a slight distraction for the journalist from my brother's huge newsworthy marriage. My daddy has practically shunned my brother from us for his unorderly behaviour, but daddy made my brother into a good business man. He knew how to play the old man right into his trap. Like said, we are ambitious people. My grandparents have retired happily and are now living peacefully in their mansion. Sometimes they call my brothers and me when they get too lonely. They have three puppies - chocolate, biscuit and Honey. Three cute golden retrievers.
I blinked my eyes. My thought changing from the yipping puppies to an equally cute boy who is now working his charms on Mrs. Stuart. That old lady crack a wide smile only for him, only when no one sees. I knew she adored him beneath her glares and curses. I walked from my seat towards them to gain their attention and to hear what they saying. I longed to be smothered and coddled with elders. If it must be this old woman, I can adjust. I don't know how these boys and girls flatter the teachers to adore them.
By the time I collected enough courage to speak, Mrs. Stuart stood and walked towards the door and the cute boy stayed behind to clean the board and arrange the desks. And I stood there awkwardly.
"Oh, Daniel ? Didn't see you there." My star smiled at me. His eyes sparkling and smile blinding.
I shuffled towards him speaking quietly and formally as my daddy taught me "I invite you to my house on the Bernards lane for a sleepover on this weekend. I would be glad if you would accept my invitation." He paused, blinked and then smiled widely, "Of course, Daniel. I'll come. My mama will be happy to see me making more friends." He gazed at me smiling widely. His black hair decorating his beautiful face. Wide golden eyes blinking adorably.
There I stood entranced, in the middle of the room looking at my star. Conan said James and Lily were the stars of his world. And I said to him that this cute boy is only star in my universe.
Austin Spiers is my star.
My love at first sight.
