The weak die, the strong live.

That was the rule of the Branwen Tribe. It was the rule that Raven Branwen had grown up with along aside her brother Qrow. But now the rule has changed.

The strong rule and the weak serve the strong.

The Branwen Tribe was well known through out Remnant. Because of their nomadic lifestyle, Huntsmen and Huntresses had a hard time finding them, even the Atlas Military had a hard time. Only two people knew where to find the Tribe's camp. And yet, two people Raven never met had found them. A man and a child.

They had to had some help. They must have. However Raven couldn't find anyone that sold the Tribe out. Her brother Qrow and her husband were crossed off. There may be bad blood between them, but Raven knew that neither of them would sell her out to become a servant to a Dark Lord.

Sure, Raven might be the crime queen of Mistral now that Lil' Miss Malachite and her Spiders were gone but she was in actuality a puppet for the real boss.

Raven had briefly thought of how to get out this situation. She thought of turning to Salem but that was simply asking the torturer to use a sharper blade. She thought of Ozpin. He may be an old fool but he was probably the only one beside the Dark Lord's Apprentice that could take the Dark Lord on. But she couldn't swallow her pride to ask the old man  for help. She thought of turning to Qrow and her husband as well. But she concluded that if a Maiden like herself couldn't stand a chance against the Dark Lord, Huntsmen like Qrow and Taiyang Xiao Long wouldn't make much of a difference.

She once tried to speak to the Dark Lord to let Qrow and Tai in so they could conspire a rebellion with the Tribe but her offer was rejected. "Your brother is nothing more than a walking bad luck charm." He had said to her. "And from my observation, your actions had broken your husband to the point that he retired as a Huntsman." That was should have been it.

"Your daughter, however, has some potential. The daughter of a Spring Maiden and Taiyang Xiao Long, the Dragon of Beacon. Very potential indeed."

That was it. Raven drew her Dust sword and held it to the Dark Lord's throat. "You can do your worst to me for the rest of my life," she growled. "But if I see you within a mile of my daughter with intent to turn her into your lapdog I will use all of my power to kill you."

He was unfazed. He always was unfazed. His mask showed no reaction, but Raven knew that the Dark Lord was smiling under his mask. "Let's rearrange our terms then Branwen." he had said. "A simple duel to where your Aura break." he proposed. "You win and your daughter will remain out of my reach."

"And if you win?"

"I have no catch Branwen. I will have my resources observe your daughter until further notice."

Raven agreed to the duel. She used every trick she had in the fight. And she still lost.

She cleared her mind as Vernal, Raven's second in-command walked into the restaurant. "We took care of the last Spiders," she said as she walked up to where Raven sat. Raven nodded her head absent mindly. Being her second command, Vernal guessed what was wrong. "You're still thinking of doing it." she said.

That knocked Raven back to Remnant. She sighed and rubbed her head. "I know it's pointless," she admitted, "but part of me thinks I can find a way out of this."

Vernal-But every scenario you think of ends where the boss comes out unscathed.

Raven-Even if I overthrow him, there's still his Apprentice and Hill and Torchwick. Those three are loyal.

Vernal-What about getting other three Maidens? That could even the fight.

Raven-(Sighs) That will most likely get the attention of Oz. Something I don't want.

Before they could continue, a guard comes in. "Excuse me ma'am." he said. "The boss wishes to speak with you and the others." Raven sighed and stood up and grabbed her Grimm Mask. She walked into the manager's office and closed the window shades. She turned on the communication device and saw the holograms turn on. They all heard the Dark Lord's order and they all bowed their heads. "Yes Lord Vader."

Roman gave his report about everything in check and send in more information. Raven knew what it was. Vader held his word when he said that he'll have Raven's daughter being observed and Roman always would give Vader exactly what he wanted. "Graduated top of her class and is accepted into Beacon Academy. Your daughter seems to be following her father's footsteps. You should be very proud." He read from the Scroll. Despite not liking how Vader was mocking her, Raven was indeed proud of her daughter upon hearing the news. "And committing a crime."

Wait what? Raven said both mentally and out loud. "Committed assault on the manager of a public bar and employees, scaring away the customers because she couldn't wait in line. Perhaps committing crime runs in the family." Raven would have facepalmed if she could. "That was publicly said. But Junior had informed Torchwick that she was looking for information on you." Raven grimaced under her mask and remained silent for the whole meeting. She didn't pay attention until Vader had mentioned something about the White Fang.

Raven turned off the communicator and rubbed her head. Once again her mind drifted off to the past. The time she dueled the Dark Lord. Or rather the aftermath.

Raven fell to the ground and her Aura broke. Vader's mechanical breathing was heard in a casual pace. Meaning that he was holding back in the duel. "Through out your life in the Branwen Tribe you lived by one code," he said as he circled her. "'The weak die, the strong live.' I have heard that saying from beings like you Raven. I don't agree with them nor do I agree with you. Strength is not measured simply by individuals but how much strength they have. However there are beings that are truly weak. And that is what I see in you Branwen. You are weak." He grabs her hair and roughly pulls her to face him. "You can claim that you are strong all you want but there will always be someone stronger than you."

"Your daughter will be left alone." He said. "Despite her potential, she is held back by her compassion for her sister and she is bullheaded. I will wait until she experiences a dance with death. But if you betray me, there will be no Kingdom, no continent on this world where I can't find you. You cannot hide, you cannot flee from me. You think you know pain Branwen?" He holds his laser sword hilt up to her throat. "I will make you long for something as sweet as pain."

Raven shook her head. Her breathing shuddered as she looked around cautiously. She sighed and left the room deciding to inform Vernal about what her daughter had accomplished.
