The streets of the kingdom you had grown up in were busy, filled with merchants and people attempting to sell spare fruits and other things of the sort. You had been living alone for a little bit of a while now, purely surviving on stealing things from the stands to eat and sell. Your goal for a while had been to steal from the castle, and seeing that the King and Queen were gone at the moment due to tensions with other kingdoms, just the Prince was in charge. Knowing how careless he seemed by the actions he took on his people, it would be an easy in and out trip. In your belt held a sheath for your dagger you stole a year or two back, something you basically couldn't live without since it was your only source of protection.
Night had fallen, dimming the lantern lined streets. The once bustling roads of carriages and shops were nearly empty besides the night patrol of guards. Seeing as though they usually got drunk on gin and rarely actually did their job, you took this as an opportunity to sneak through the gates. The tall iron bars were locked at the center, so you had to devise a plan of some kind to get through. There were stone walls beside the gate that surrounded the castle, which was impossible to break through. So, the only way to get through would be to climb.
In your hands was a thick rope you stole a little while back when originally making this plan. At the end was a hook crafted from strong wood that you had skinned from an already fallen tree near the forest's edge. With a grunt, you whipped the hook as far as you could, and it luckily caught onto one of the stone tops of the wall. You gave it a couple more tugs to make sure it was secure enough, which it was. Dirt and dust clouded behind you when you ran up to the wall. Trying to be as silent as possible, you landed your feet on the wall, using the rope to climb it. Rope burn flamed up on your palms, but you had to push through. With all the luck possible, you made it to the top. Now what, there was this huge drop and not a soft surface to fall on. You took a deep breath, tossed the rope and hook over the edge, and dove. It was the heat of the moment, nothing could have really prepared you for it, but you rolled into a summersault and got to your feet.
You took a moment to breathe heavily in the night air, making sure to catch your breath before continuing. One of the hardest parts was done. You collected the devices used to get over the wall and slid them under a bush lining the wall. There weren't any guards near the entrance, lucky you. In a dash of hope, you sprinted to the doors. Under your fingers was the old, splintering wood lined with rusty gold, these things had to be refurbished. Seeing how ancient these things were, they would most likely make a loud noise when being opened, so you approached it with caution. Opening them slowly and sliding in was the best option you had, so you took it. A god awful creaking noise sounded from the hinges of the door that echoed through the halls. In a panic, you quickly slipped through the gap you created before closing it behind you as quietly as possible. You froze, trying to hear if there were any approaching footsteps. But, there were none.
A breath of relief passed your lips. You silently walked against the edges of the hallway. The ground was covered in an expensive red flooring, and the rustic walls were adorned with paintings, pictures, brightly lit candles and gold engravings where there were cracks. 'These people really do fix everything with money, huh.', you thought bitterly. To the right were stairs that twisted and turned in a circular pillar. These were probably connecting to rooms owned by the royals. Of course you wanted to steal things worth alot of gold, but that would be stepping over the line. So, you turned away and looked elsewhere. Soon enough, after passing more paintings and bolted to the wall gold plates, you reached the dining room. The table was set with pricey silverware and goblets worth hundreds. A bright smile crossed your features. Almost immediately, you grabbed all you could, forks, spoons, cups, plates, anything and stuffed them into the large satchel that hung at your side. Knowing how much gold all this would make you blinded you with greed until you heard a sly, almost cocky voice behind you speak.
