Stefan

Bzzz Bzzzz Bzzzzz.  My phone started vibrating.  I welcomed the distraction.  I disentangled myself from Lindsey with difficulty.  She was wayyy too into this for me to handle tonight.

“I gotta get this, ‘scuse me,” I say and slide her off my lap.  I pull my phone out of my back pocket and look at the screen. OH MY GOD, I think, IT’s HER!

“Ash, Ash, Ash, Ash!” I say trying to get his attention.  He finally detaches his face from the brunette’s and looks at me all pissed off.

“What, Stef?!”  Again with the ruining the moment!” I just hold the phone out so he can see it. He finally gets it and jumps off the couch causing the girl to fall onto the floor with a thud.

“Well answer it man!” he yells at me.  The girls glare at both of us and stalk out of the room but for once I could care less what other people think.

“What do I say?” I moan at him all flustered.

“Start with hello,” Ash says rolling his eyes at my ineptitude.

Jaina

“Hello?” Oh freak he answered, I think, now what do I do?!

“Uhhhh, hiiiiiiii, Stefan?” I say.  Oh my gosh I sound like I’m 12, prank calling a crush at a sleepover, I think.  Vera and Kimbra start giggling at me.  I point them out of the room.  They were not going to ruin this now that I am actually talking to him.  They make pouty faces at me but walk through the bathroom to V’s room.

“Yes?” he says.  Gosh, his voice.  I slide down the wall onto the floor.

“Umm, I don’t know if you remember me, but uh, it’s Jaina,” I say all kinds of stumbling over my words.  Maybe I should say I’m from the NYC show, I wonder.  But then again I clearly have an American accent so if he has any brains at all, he should be able to figure it out.

“Ah, Jaina, right,” Stefan says, I melt a little when he says my name…good thing I’m already on the floor.

“Well, uh how’s life?” I ask.  I am so lame.  How’s life?!  That’s the best I can come up with.  I cringe inwardly at my lack of flirtatiousness.

“Life, ah, it’s brilliant, innit?” he says.  His innate Brit-ishness creeping out at the end.  I giggle in spite myself.

            “What’s funny?”

“Innit,” I say, “It’s just so British.”  I laugh again and he joins in.  I relax a little bit.

“Anyway,” I say, “I was calling to see if, well you probably don’t but Vera and Kimbra really wanted me to ask because well we can’t find dates, and it’s like next week and stupid Frank is going and I don’t want to deal with him and would much rather go with you and well, you don’t have to, but would you want to go?”

“Umm, Jaina,” Stefan says laughing, “Would I want to go where?”

Oh my gosh I am such a loser.  I got so flustered and nervous I totally didn’t even explain what I was asking him to do.  I feel my face turning bright red.

“Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry.”  I say.  “Why do I always babble when I talk to you?”

“I dunno,” he answers.  I pause awkwardly.  This is so dumb.  I’m going to kill Vera, I think.

“Well, uh,” apparently I’d gone back to stuttering.  I really hate talking on the phone. “See there’s this big fancy dinner dance at my university next week called the Fall Ball and I was wondering if you would want to come…as like my date?”  I ask finally.

Stefan

“…as like my date?” Jaina asks.  My eyes bug outta my head.  I cover the phone with the palm of my other hand and whisper shout at Ashley.

“She’s asking me out!  What are we doing next weekend?  Want to go to the States?”

Ashley wolf whistles and pats me on the back.

“Of course, mate. USA here we come!”

I put the phone back to my ear in time to hear Jaina going, “Hello, hello, are you there?  Stefan?”

“Oh sorry,” I say, “I was double checking with Ash that we didn’t have a gig.  We don’t.  So yeah sure, I’d love to go with you to your Fall Ball.”

Jaina

I hang up the phone with a total sigh of relief.  He said yes.  Stefan was going to be my date to the Fall Ball.  I had a date to the Fall Ball.  Annddd, Stefan said that he’d bring Ash and Dru with him as dates for Kimbra and Vera.  Not to go all Rizzo from Grease, one of my fav movies, but we are going to have the hottest dates there!

I walk over to the bathroom and pull open the door.  Kimbra and Vera promptly fall over at my feet.  I roll my eyes as they sheepishly get back up.

“Wellllllll,” Kimbra says, “Did you get us dates or do I have to ask that silly kid that licked my face at O’Brian’s last week?”  I laugh.

“You are safe from the face licker my dear,” I declare.  “You as well V.  Though what’s this I hear about you and Dru?”  I wiggle my eyebrows at her.  She’d said that her and Ash didn’t hook up that night but neglected to mention it was because she was into Dru!

“Girllll, you worry about you and I’ll worry about me and my Dru,” she says with an uncharacteristic giggle.  Kimbra and I screech.

“You’ve been holding out on us!” I yell and hit her on the arm.  “What the heck V?!  If you and Dru have been like talking and stuff why did you make me call Stefan like that?”

Kimbra breaks in with, “Duh, Jaina, you sooo needed to talk to Stefan and were not going to unless we made you.  It’s time to move on with your life and Stefan’s where it’s at.”

“Whatever,” I say, “I’m just glad I’ll have someone to help me fend off Frank and the fact that it’s Stefan just makes is sooo much sweeter.”  Vera and Kimbra laugh.  They don’t get how serious I am.  Whereas its probs funny from the outside looking in, the fact that Frank just cannot take a hint gets sooo unbelievably annoying after a while.  Frank’s a year younger than us and has been obnoxiously pursuing me for like the past two years.  I have even straight up told him I am not interested but still he comes on to me.  Give. It. Up. Boy.
