He shot the guy between his eyes. A hole formed between there as the blood started spilling to the ground. The guy crumpled to the floor, his eyes wide open and his mouth shaped as an 'o'. The shooter smears the guy's blood on his pants. ''Take him away and clean this. Let this be a warning for all of you, don't mess with a mobster.'' He grumbled. And with that he left the room.
I'm leaning on Devin his shoulder as we watch his favourite show on his phone. I don't like it all that much. I don't like the violence all that much. But it's not like I have much choice either. We've been travelling for hours now. My mom and her boyfriend that I've never met and never heard of before decided to move in together. My mom told us this last week, she also announced his name, Davis. Now we are in the car, on our way to Davis. I lean my head on Devin his shoulder, I close my eyes and hope to catch on some sleep.
My face hits the car seat. When I look up with my sleepy eyes, I find Devin standing outside the car grinning at me. Jerk. ''Devin don't be rude to your sister. You could have woken her up before getting out the car.'' My mom scolds him. My older brother smirks down at me as I sit right. Rubbing my sleepy eyes as they adjust to the sunlight outside the car.
Huge house, or wait let me rephrase that. A huge castle. Mansion. Villa. The car I was currently sitting in was parked between a huge white mansion and a huge fountain. Tall fences were caging in the mansion. This is truly a replica of the Mean Girls house. Maybe even bigger?
Devin helps me get out of the car and I suddenly feel so out of place. I am wearing a green flower dress, that my Nana Dorothea made me. And when I look over at Devin I get even more embarassed, he's wearing black ripped jeans and a simple black shirt, wait, is that a stain? Ew. And dirty black sneakers, and to think of the fact that it used to be white.
The front door gets thrown open, showing a short redhead woman. She is smiling widely. One would think we've known each other for years but haven't seen each other in years. But I don't know her, but my mom on the other hand beams at her as they engulf each other in a tight hug.
"Oh dear, how happy I am that you have arrived, Davis kept asking me to keep an eye out for the front porch. He is just as excited that you have came all the way over here." The woman says as they break apart. She's wearing a housekeeper dress smiling at my mom.
My mom moves away from her as some random guy caries our luggage inside. "That's really sweet Suzy. I really missed it here," my mom smiles politely at her. Devin and I glance at each other. Missed it here? She has been here before. Devin raises his eyebrows and I shrug at him. "Oh, these are my kids, Suzy, this is Devin and this is Alora!" My mom says pointing at us excitedly.
The woman named Suzy gives my brother a pointed look before making her way to me and squeezing me into a hug. "It has been about time, I am happy to finally meet you." She says after letting go of me.
"Yeah same." I smile at her awkwardly.
After my mom and Suzy converse for what seems like hours, we finally enter the huge, huge mansion. I clutch Devin's wrist, feeling the anxiety roll off me by walking in a strange house.
Like the outside, the inside of the mansion is also white, in front of me curved stairs that lead to the right and to the left. There are doors everywhere, except to my right. There is an opening to the living room, no door though. And I catch a glimpse of the inside.
Sorry mom that I was so moody earlier about moving.
When I look back at the stairs, I catch a girl close the door next to the stairs. She's wearing black silk pyjamas and her hair is as red as Suzy's. She seems really comfortable walking around here. And yet something in me tells me it's no good to stay here. When she sees us, she looks shocked and she hurries to the door and leaves. I don't think she likes visitors.
