the first snow of the season
christmas decorations everywhere
with the occasional turkey
going to visit my whole family
meaning my moms side
i've tried to keep him away from them
with their hateful comments
but i cant keep him safe forever
arriving to the house
introductions going well
everyone reacting normally to me having a boyfriend
helping out with the cooking
peeling potatoes, boiling water for the corn,making the stuffing
listening to the kids laugh at how the cranberry sauce moves
like an inflatable tube man they say
telling stories at dinner
watching the kids at their table
ditching to hang out with them when politics start getting involved
sitting with the kids in chairs too small
talking about minecraft and how we remember the day it was released
telling them about high school and how theyll be like us someday
explaining that its okay to like the same gender no matter what anyone says
everybody has finished eating
moved to the couch to watch a football game
leaving me and awsten to clean up
"i don't mind, i like cleaning!"
doing loads of dishes,
collapsing on the old armchair in the corner of the living room
laughing everytime someone screams at the tv
mocking the commercials
holding hands and soon falling asleep
