I sit in the winter cold on my doorstep waiting for Irene to get here. Why was she taking so long? She lives a block away, I'm surprised she isn't here yet. I look down at my hands only to see that they're icy cold. I grab my things and plan to go wait inside but just as I was going to open the door I hear a car stop.
"WHERE ARE YOU GOING?!" Irene shouted
"I'm going inside, you were taking to long it's freezing out here!" I shouted back
"Chill I just went to go get us a coffee, we have to stay at this house for 2 days!"
"Thank you but I didn't need one!"
"Just get in the damn car already!"
"Okay"
I look into the back seat and see Layla sitting in the back.
"You guys still haven't talked yet?" I ask
"What do you think? She's going to be the first to talk not me obviously." Irene scoffs
"Don't you think-"
"Chill she doesn't have her hearing aid in we are fine."
"Okay" I sigh in relief
I guess I should give you a bit of a heads up on Layla and Irene. Layla is deaf. Which is fine we don't really make a big deal about it anyways. When we first met her it took Irene months to learn sign language. Although I already it knew it. It wasn't until a week ago that they stopped talking they're angry with each other for some reason. I don't know why. Was I going to ask why? No, this always happens anyways. They get into a fight as I try to help them work it out. They always find someway to make up though. Suddenly, the car stops. I snap taking out my earphones and stopping my music.
"Are we here? The house is still 30 minutes away" I ask
"No silly!" Irene playfully says back and punches me in the arm making me wince.
"We are here to pick up Thomas remember?"
Oh yeah. Tom. I must've forgotten that he was going to help us babysit. I sit back in my seat, a little relieved because I didn't want to be their yet. I look out the window to see Tom walking towards the car. He then gets into the car and slams the door shut.
"Does she have her hearing aid?" Tom signed
"No" I sign back
"Why aren't you talking?" Thomas asked Layla
"Just tired." Layla signed
I knew there was something wrong after that sentence. She always uses that excuse when she's mad or sad. Occasionally If she's actually tired. I look at Layla. Just to see her staring out the window, I tap on her shoulder.
"Are you okay?" I signed
"I told you I was just tired." She signed back.
"Are you sure? You can always talk to me if something is wrong"
"I'm fine."
"Okay."
Just then Irene makes a stop. This is it. We are at the house. I step out of the car onto the hard and crunchy snow. I get chills from the cold air. The weather is weird here. It's may and it's snowing.
It takes me a while to get used to the cold chilling air. I walk up to the house and knock on the door. A little six year old girl opens the door."Hi! Is your mom here?" I ask
"No she went to the grocery store for a while. Are you my babysitters?" The little girl says
"Yes we are"
"That's wonderful! You may come in! Take your shoes off at the door though"
I step in the house as the smell of cinnamon fills the room and the warm ness of the house is already making me hot.
A/N: hope you guys like the chapter! Also sorry if it's not that good. I tried to get it done fast and quick.
