I immediately go into the living room and sit onto the couch. It's actually really cozy here. Cozier then my house for sure.
"AMARA! AMARA!" Tom shouted at me
I snap and look at him "oh what sorry, I spaced out."
Right before tom could respond Layla taps me on the shoulder.
"What is it?" I signed
"I'm sorry about earlier I am really just tired" Layla signed back
That must've been the case because if something were really wrong she would've told me by now.
"It's alright, don't apologize you have nothing to be sorry for" I sign
Layla gives me a bright smile. I didn't want to smile back but I do because her smile is the most wonderful thing you could experience..by far.
"So what's your name" I ask the little girl
"I'm raya! What's your name?"
"I'm amara, this is Layla" I say
I introduce Layla to raya because she's 6 and I'm not so sure that she knows sign language.
"Is she deaf?" Raya asked politely
"Yes, yes she is. I can talk to her for you if you'd like!" I respond in a exited tone
There's something about Layla that I like talking to. That's why I get exited while talking to her. It's to the point where it's kind of embarrassing but, I can't really control it. It's funny because when it comes to talking to my other friends like Irene I sometimes stutter, like choke on my own words. It's weird because we've known each other since preschool. But, with Layla I feel like I can actually open up. I think it's because I like talking with my hands better. I don't know though. I haven't been worried about it.
"No thank you! I actually know some words in sign language, but not a whole lot. I prefer to talk with my words and not my hands. Can she read lips?" Raya says
I turn to Layla and ask her if she can read lips.
"I have tried a couple times but it always ends up in a disaster" Layla signed
"She says she's tried a couple times but it ends up in a disaster" I explain to raya
"That's too bad. Would you guys like a snack?" Raya asked
"No thank you!" Both me and Layla answer
Raya nods her heads down prepares to make Irene and Tom a snack because apparently they both wanted one.
Layla then taps on my shoulder and I jump because I was not prepared for her to do that.
"Sorry, we should go look around the house." Layla signed
"Okay" I sign back
I actually didn't want to go look around. I was tired and this couch was quite comfortable actually. But instead I just force myself up and walk with Layla because I feel bad about talking about her to Irene.
