I was running as fast as a I could in the deep dark woods running away from my enemy. I didn't know what else to do but run, run as fast as my little legs could take me. I knew it was no match for the long slender legs that was heard pounding behind me , catching up to me to catch me and kill me. I never thought my life would end like this. With me a stranger that seemed to be obsessed with killing me. I didn't know the guy and I was already sure he didn't know me. I ran onto a trail I made a year or two ago when I first moved here. This path led to a specific clearing in the woods. I knew it like a puzzle that I put together a million times over and over again the pieces would fit everytime. this stranger didn't know these woods like I did. I knew there was a path that led to a clearing in the middle of the woods , but there was also another path that entered into the woods again but came right back to the house. I knew that was my key to surviving another day. So I ducked into a thick log with a couple holes spread about the log that I would be able to peek through to see my stranger. He was walking quite fast past the log and down the fake path that didn't lead back to my house but to the clearing in the woods. I waited until I couldn't hear his footsteps anymore and I let out a loud sigh. I had to think of a plan and I had to think of it fast. There was no way in hell I was going to be able to outrun this man and there was no way in hell I was going to be able to fight him to survive so I have to think smart . If I wait a couple more minutes for him to make his way to the clearing that should give me time to make a good run for it back to the house , but of I do he could hear my footsteps echoing from the ground and come chasing after me. I had to calm and quiet . I sat listening trying to hear any type of foot step that could belong to him, but I heard nothing . Nothing but dead silence. Cold. Dead. Silence. I stood not too fast to draw attention but not to slow to where I would fall backwards and make even more noise. I had to be precise about this. I slowly made my way down the path that led towards my house. Soft crackles of leaves were barely audible underneath my feet. I had to watch where I took my next step to watch out for branches that could Crack underneath my weight. I took one slow step at a time making sure not to make as much noise as I could. It was a burden that I wore the type of shoes that aren't really the good type to run in . I was half way to my house when I heard footsteps in the distance. I looked back and saw the white bloody mask my stranger was wearing. The mask was horrible looking, looked like something that came out of a horror movie. The mask wasn't what bothered me it was the long splashes of blood that was scattered along the side of the mask that scared me shitless. I didn't know who's blood that was of it was his or if it was someone else's. I didn't know if it was fresh or if he killed someone a longtime ago. I didn't waste another second on running down the path like my life depended on it
Well my life did depend on this moment. Do I fight to survive or do I allow this man to take my life. My body came up with the decision before my mind could and it chose to survive. I ran as fast as I could towards my house not stopping for a minute. My lungs burning from the cold air that was entering and exiting my body. Burning the inside of my neck with every inhale of cruel cold air. My muscles burning from the sudden movement. I was about 10 feet from my front porch when I felt a burning feeling in my calf. It was a fuzzy feeling for a second then an excruciating pain came crushing down onto all of the muscles in my leg and pushing them all to that one specific spot on my leg. I screamed out in pain and stopped to look down to see if I ran into something when I seen the end of a shooting arrow buried deep into the lower part of my leg. I turn around to see the man carrying what looked to be a crossbow that was placed behind his neck. His mask seemingly looked to be smirking at me as if it was his real expressions that was being show instead of the design of the mask. He was about 20 feet away from me. Which might give me enough time to run to the sliding glass door .
With a rush of adrenaline I used all of the strength I had left in my legs to run of up the steps and into the house slamming the front door behind me and locking the door with a swift move. I grab the arrow that was buried half way tiny my calf and counted to three. 1. 2. 3. With one swift move I yanked the arrow out of my leg a disgusting flesh tearing sound echoing throughout my home. I let out another cry feeling the pain come back 10 times worse. I fell to the floor losing all the strength in my legs. I lay my head against the glass door and slowly closing my eyes . I feel small but rough vibrations coming from the glass behind me. I turn my head to see the strange man crouching down to my level only to stare blankly at me. So many emotions was going through my head. Emotions of anger, sadness, adrenaline, and hopelessness was flowing through my mind a million miles per second. He slowly started tapping on the glass again almost as if to taunt me into opening the door to allow him inside. I start to crawl to my side table that has a stack of paper and a container full of markers beside the neatly stacked pieces. I grab a hand full of papers and I grab the first marker I see causing the whole container to come crashing down to the floor . I crawl my way back to the glass door and write something down. (What do you want from me). The man looked down at the piece of paper that I pressed against the glass door. He tilted his head to the side and spoke in what I could only guess in a husky, manly tone.
"Your life. He spoke.
I give him a worried but curious. I understood what he said. I could read lips but I was too shocked by his clear answer. I look up at him with tears building up in my eyes some escaping to begin making their way down the side of my cheeks. He lowers his head at what seems to be like he's sighing in defeat and slowly stands up only to turn around and make his way down the front steps. Before he left he turned around one last time to get a good look at me before he turned back around and made his way back into the woods. Shocked by what just happened I lay backwards slamming my head against the hard wood floor. The world around me slowly darkening until I could see is darkness.
