Let me dream of dancing till the dawn
The bells of the clock would break the magic
The sound of hurried foot steps echoing in the castle lobby.
"I have to be on time or else...!"
The blonde young lady mumbled to herself as she head to the main hall. Today's the kingdom's most important ball where the prince will choose a bride among all the guests. All the beautiful daughters of the aristocrats are invited, dressed up to shine the brightest, to be the most beautiful flower in order to catch the attention of the young prince.
The prince was said to be quite a troublesome one with high standard. Most of his free time were to spent on doing researches that he finds 'interesting'. The prince was especially keen on girls though, regardless of their social ranks, from the nobles to commoners. Sometimes he would sneak out here and there to meet new friends while hiding his true identity. However, there wasn't anyone that our prince was interested enough to make her his bride. The king then decided to hold a ball, since his patience had run out and he can't let his son be single forever. Who would rule the kingdom then?
The white haired prince was busy talking to the guests, forming bonds between countries until he caught a glimpse of an unfamiliar girl making her entrance into the ball, later than everyone. She had short blond hair with gentle golden eyes. Wearing a blue gown with glittering crystals, the beautiful young lady took the prince's breath away, as she did most people. It was love at first sight for him. The prince then excused himself from his guests as he headed to his love's direction.
Looking for a face I do not know, that voice whispers
"Thrust the edge you hold and take away everything"
"Good evening, milady."
The prince kneeled down as he offered his hand.
"As you may know, I'm Erwin Arclight, the prince of this kingdom." Looking at the confused girl, he smiled. "May I have this dance?"
Realizing that Erwin was the one she had been looking for, the young lady reclaimed her composure and took his hand.
"Yes, your highness, I'd love to."
The music started to play as the two of them went into their own world. Only by having the girl in his embrace set Erwin on fire. He had never felt his heart beats so fast that he couldn't breath. His ears felt like burning. Her smile felt like a void that suck he in, leave him forever in awe and enchanted by her. Staring deeply into each other's eyes, no word was needed. All they knew was that the feeling was mutual. This had to be the one he would marry, Erwin thought to himself, there would be no one could give him as much excitement as her.
They danced and danced and danced, feeling like the time would stop, like the world only existed for them, as if there was a 'happily ever after'.
In the ashes, the glass slippers are ruddily melting and merging
Knowing too late, I get shivers and wish to go back
Only if there was a 'happily ever after'.
Dong... Dong... Dong...
The sound of the clock alarming it's 12 a.m, dragging the girl back to her reality. The time had come. She knew that she had to do her job, or else...
Noticing his love were shivering, Erwin spoke up.
"Is there something wrong, milady?"
He unconsciously tightened his embrace.
Should I kill him?
It's the job you were paid for
But I love him this much
He's just another noble that you loathe with your whole life
Maybe he's different from them
Stop fooling yourself, 'trust' requires a cost we can't pay
But...
The girl looked up at him, her eyes filled with sadness. She was still unsure of her final decision but her hands reached for the prince's neck by themselves.
"You must die."
She spoke up with hatred in her voice, she tightened her grip. It was like she was a completely different person.
"I'd gladly die by your hands my princess."
Erwin laughed weakly as he looked at her warmly.
"But answer me..." he asked, "What cruel things did I do to my princess to have left a tear on her beautiful face like this? I'm troubled."
Brushing off the tear on his love's face and planted a kiss there. At that moment an impulse runs down her spine.
Not yet... I still want to be with him! Why can't we have a different ending?! If we just run away together, yes... right now...
The girl was screaming inside her head, fighting with another 'her' who longed for nothing but revenge.
"Farewell."
Not listening to the mind, her body moved on its own, thrusting the knife that was hidden. Behind all those layers of the breath-taking dress was one thing that could away a person breath for eternity. As if this was a dream, it was time for the dream to stop.
"At least, tell me your name...?"
Erwin's voice was weakened. It took all of his courage to make only a few words. But those words were enough.
"H-haru... I'm Haru, my prince..."
The old Haru was brought back to her senses, her voice trembling.
"Prince Erwin...?"
There was only silence answering her.
Haru fell on her knees as she embraced the body of her love, buried her face in his chest that was once warm.
The girl's tears are flowing again but there was no hand that can brush them away now. The moonlight shining through the window fell on Haru and made a white veil. Is it the veil of all beginnings or the veil that ends all? No one but only the two of them would know.
If only this moment could be frozen in time.So that the two of them could be together forever. So this could be like the last picture in a tale book, even without 'happily', there would be an 'ever after'.
Just like how a fairy tale would be.
