"Colton." He accepted my hand, taking it into his bear-like paws. I squeezed hard in an attempt to be assertive. There was no way I was letting him think I was some weak girl.
"You have an impressive grip there," He said. There was a hint of a smile in his eyes.
"Thanks," I shrugged, trying to play it off like it was nothing.
I took in my surroundings of the small building. It was a cute little shack containing all the supplies a lifeguard could possibly need. I mean of course it did, it had to."So, you new around here? Vacationing?" He stared at me intently.
"Yeah, I just moved here actually." I thought too much about how to make eye contact correctly, so I decided to glance elsewhere as if I was interested in everything but him. He probably thought I was weird now...great.
"From where?"
"Oh you know, places." I know I was coming off as mysterious, but with all do respect, this man was a stranger.
He gave me an incredulous look, lifting a brow with ease."Places, huh?" But he dismissed it, knowing I didn't really want to answer. Feeling discomfort, I quickly changed topics.
"Sooo... do all the lifeguards umm hangout here?" I moved past him taking in the whole scene. It was definitely one of the bigger stands, and by my guess, I'd say where all the lifeguards took their lunch breaks. Equipment filled the corners of the room, as I was surprised to find it somewhat organized.
"I mean yeah for the most part, but only the super cool ones," He winked at me, but I rolled my eyes.
"So modest I see." I continued to talk.
"Are you from around here?""Grown up here my whole life, but I can't complain much. We get some pretty great weather." He glanced out the window.
"Do you like being a lifeguard?" I asked.
"Woah, slow down there, detective. Are you interrogating me?" He smiled at me, a real smile and my heart skipped a beat for a brief moment as I couldn't help but mirror him.
"No no, just curious is all." I stared at him for what was probably way too long, but I couldn't help it. I studied his features and his movements. For whatever reason he was of interest to me, but I wasn't entirely sure why. I mean aside from the fact that he was attractive of course.
I suddenly wanted so badly to know him as crazy as that sounded because I had only barely just met the guy."Yes, I do like being a lifeguard," he said, "because I get to help stubborn people like you."
