Zara Anand

I believe representation is always important, as a South Asian, Guyanese, girl myself, there is a lack of meaningful representation within the media. We are almost always portrayed as the undesirable, side character, or, as the character who is strayed from their cultural values. The decision I made with her race will hopefully have a positive impact on other beautiful South Asian readers just like her.

With race, also comes culture, I have decided it is important included some of the toxic aspects of Asian culture, because I know, for an absolute fact, that other Asian and POC readers will be able to relate. Especially, seeing that this is a story of a non-white girl taking interest in a white boy (hey Alexa, play "your best american girl" by Mitski).

I want it to be known that this will always be a safe place for these values to be discussed.

Zara is a South Asian teenage girl. She is Indian. Her skin is a beautiful golden brown and she has wonderful, deep brown eyes and she has dark, thick, gorgeous wavy hair. She is NOT white and shall not be seen as so.
