Two hours later, she was sorting coupons at the table when he stepped into the doorway. She glanced up smiling.

"Hi, Hon, are you hungry?"

"Yeah, thanks. Food sounds really good. Any good deals in the sales sheets?" He asked as he sat across from her at the table.

"A few." She stood and took out a covered plate she had kept warming in the oven. Pulling off the foil she revealed an egg bake casserole with potatoes, onions, mushrooms, and gooey cheese melted on top. "Coffee or milk?" She asked.

"Coffee please."

Setting the steaming cup by his plate she rested her hand on his shoulder. "Where do you have to drive to today?"

"This load has to be hauled all the way down the coast. I'll be gone about a week because I'm picking up a return load too. This is delicious, Sweetie." He announced motioning to his plate.

"Thanks. You'll call me when you take a break right?" She asked hopefully.

"As always, Love."

"Oh, I almost forgot." She passed him a package. "Your newest book on disc arrived in the mail today just in time for your trip."

"That's great! I can't wait to hear it as the miles trip along. It's a book full of short stories that was suggested by a friend, but the one they were most interested in is about rescuing starfish."

"That sounds interesting. You'll have to tell me about it." She suggested.

"Yeah." He agreed. "But you know, for the life of me, ever since I heard of this story I've been wondering if starfish tickle when you touch them." His face was split in a grin.

As she followed him out to his car so he could leave to meet his loaded rig she suggested, "Next week when you get home, we should go to the aquarium. They have a touch tank and I'm sure they have starfish there."

They stood in the driveway hugging tightly and telling each other how much they loved the other one.

Finally, he pulled his lips from hers, and looked down into her eyes filled with loved. "Hold down the fort, for me. I'll be counting the minutes until I'm back in your arms."

She stood waving as he pulled out of the driveway. When his vehicle was out of sight she went inside and straight to their bedroom. Curling up on his side of the bed she reached out and clutched the stuffed dog resting on the pillow. A smile crossed her face as his scent drifted up to her comforting her. She sighed before rising and straightening up the covers. There was plenty to do in the week while he was away and looking up the aquarium's hours of operations was first on her list.

This is a fictional story although it was written for two friends and how I picture their love story. I hope it honors their bond and puts a smile on your faces.
