"Tom! Get down here and apologize to Ruby!"

I snickered, pulling on my best guilty face. Then I walked down the stairs as regretfully as I could. A somber looking Ruby stood next to a fuming Mrs. Cole. I gave her a venomous glare. Ruby fearfully looked away from my direction, and I turned to face Mrs. Cole.

"Yes, Mrs. Cole?"

"Did you tear her ribbons?"

"Your gonna have to be more specific,
I have no idea what your talking about." I responded, acting clueless.

I would have to get revenge on Ruby later.

"Ok, let me give you a visual!" Mrs. Cole barked at me. She started threateningly stepping towards me. I stood my ground.

"Pink ribbons."

Step.

"With red polka dots."

Step.

"Vanishing without a trace just after talking to you."

Step.

"Only to be found torn to shreds a few minutes later next to a snake corpse."

She was now in my face. Disturbingly smelly breath flowing out of her mouth.

"Who could one, have an affinity with snakes used for their tricks, two, a vendetta against all the other orphans,
and three, hates when people bother said person."

"I don't know, Mrs. Cole. Ask the other orphans. Maybe they know something."

Mrs. Cole looked about ready to strangle me. But there was nothing she could do. Unless i give any indication that I misbehaved, she couldn't punish me at all. No proof, no gain.

Before leaving to finish a chapter of my demolished book, I confidently strode over to Ruby. Ruby started to shiver uncontrollably. I grinned, then whispered menacingly in her ear,

"You know what happens when people cross me. Your going to take care of my snakes for the entire month for your betrayal."

"And be careful."

"They don't like outsiders."
