We arrived at the fair in record time, as always. The sun had set long ago, and the chill in the air threatened to freeze me right down to my bones. I fixed my scarf around my neck and adjusted my mittens as Julia wrapped her jacket around her waist, arms naked to the elements.
"Lena, you look like a marshmallow! You are so fluffy!" she said, laughing.
"Shush Julia, I am cold! You know how I am during winter!" I said back to her.
We went on all sorts of roller coasters, some which pushed my stomach to its limits. We eventually got Julia her cotton candy and buttery popcorn. She munched happily at it. I sipped at a water bottle, not daring to push my luck with my stomach on these wild rides.
We walked hand in hand to the Ferris wheel. The lights from the carnival reflected in her eyes in the most beautiful way. Her eyes always enchanted me, but now they held a special power over me.
"Hey Lenochka, I need to run to the bathroom. Do you mind?" she asked.
"No, go ahead honey, I'll wait here" I assured her.
"Okay, cool. Be right back!"
I waited by the ferris wheel. It was very boring waiting for her, and I assumed she must be waiting in a line for the bathroom with how long it was taking. It was very boring until something, or better said, someone, caught my eye. Dimitri.
I tried to make myself invisible, looking down and even pulling my hood up to cover my red locks of hair. All in vain.
"Lena!" he exclaimed, almost in relief. His hands swayed from side to side as he walked my way. Knowing Julia, she would not be happy a boy was talking to me, let alone without her being there to protect me.
"Dimitri..." I sighed, trying to cover up the disappointment in my voice.
"Did you think about what I told you earlier" he pushed the topic right to the center of attention. His hand balled up into fists at his side.
"There is nothing to think about, she is my life. You know that. I know that." I said, exasperated. I tried to turn away but he caught me by the arm.
"You don't know that. You've only ever been with her. You don't fear you are missing out on something?" he pressed, keeping a firm grip on my arm.
"No, Dimitri, and honestly I think you should-" I was caught off suddenly by his lips pressing against mine.
His lips moved against mine with a sudden urgency, trying to get every bit out of this moment.
I was too in shock to do anything. I stood still as stone, not responding as his lips tried to force a reaction out of mine.
Finally it ended.
In the distance I heard someone gasp...
I turned and saw Julia's face in the distance.
