Sam slowly woke up and rubbed her eyes, as the morning sunrays hit her face from her window. She got up and sat on her bed, stretched a bit, yawned and looked at the clock above her bedroom door. It was half past 6. She was never used to waking up so early. Her Diwali vacation had started. She would not wake up before 12 pm during her holidays. But today.. it was as if God had wanted her to wake up early.
"Good morning Sam!" she wished herself. "Maybe God wants me to start waking up early." she smiled to herself and started thinking about her Maths Quiz. It was held the day before and she had obviously won the first prize. All the teachers were so proud of her amd were praising her. She said a short prayer for the beautiful morning and for all that God had given her. Then she decided to go for a short morning walk, as she had never done it before in her life.
She went to her bathroom, brushed her teeth and took a bath. She put on her simple blue T-shirt, black leggings and sports shoes and tied her hair in a braid. She quickly started walking towards her front door. "Good morning, my angel." said a voice, softly. She turned around to see her dad, who had just finished his mornig prayers. "Where are you going? And.. it's a surprise that you woke up so early today." Sam gave a sheepish smile and said- "I'm going for a morning walk. I'll be back in an hour or so..." "Okay, darling. No problem. It's good to see that you're going for morning walks." said her overly disciplined dad. Sam smiled at her dad and walked out of the house.
The cool morning breeze and the light sunshine made her feel fresh. She walked till the big ground where every year, the annual funfair used to be held for children and adults. She remembered the days when she used to come with parents and friends for the funfair. The public ground was then sold to a private owner and due to this there were no funfairs or competitions held in that village."I miss those days." she said with a sigh. She shook her head and started walking back home. As she walked back, she gave a brief look at Boby's house. It was big, with two bedrooms and a terrace above their house. She could see from their window that Boby and Shammi were eating their breakfast. "How strange! Who eats breakfast so early? People go for morning walks or sleep like me." she laughed softly at this thought. She brushed off that thought and walked back towards her house.
Sam ate her breakfast and went back to her room. Again, she started thinking about Boby. She could feel a wave of emotions hitting her hard. Her heart was becoming heavier with emotions and she needed to spill out her feelings to someone. She had an idea. She looked over at an unused diary and thought, "Why not give it a try?"
"Dear Diary,
It's my first time that I'm writing a diary and I'm... I don't know what to say. Okay, so it's kinda complicated. I don't know how to express it nor do I have anyone with whom I can express my feelings. Ma and Dad are never gonna understand me. It's just that I'm all alone. Sometimes I wish that I had a younger brother or sister with whom I could share my feelings with, have fun with.... but I guess it's not written in my fate. It's just that I have a slight crush on Boby. Nish said that it's love, but... love doesn't happen so quickly. It takes time. Nish has had so many experiences with boys and relationships and stuff... that now she gets excited when I.. her best friend, has developed a crush on someone. I don't know why, but he has got stuck in my mind and I sometimes just feel like seeing him. Even if it's just for a second. I get goosebumps whenever I look at him and my heart starts pounding in my chest. I fumble with my words. "
As she was about to write more, the doorbell of their house rang. Sam went and opened the door, at the order of her mom and was surprised to find Shammi and Boby. Shammi was wearing a pink- coloured 'sari' while Boby was wearing a white coloured shirt with denim jeans. "Hi!" exclaimed Shammi. "Hey! Good morning"said Sam. Boby smiled brightly at Sam and she reciprocated it back by giving her best smile to him. It didn't really need any effort. Just then her mom and dad came to the door to check who it was. "Good morning." they both wished together with their hands folded. Boby and Shammi both nodded and gave a slight smile to them. "Actually..." said Shammi, turning towards Sam's parents, "we were going to meet our aunt in Khuri and we thought of giving y'all our house keys, since we won't be at home and we will be returning back tomorrow afternoon." she handed over the keys to them and Sam's mom took it. "Well then, I guess we should leave." said Boby, with a smile. "Wait!" shouted Sam's father, "If you don't mind, can you take Sam with y'all too? Since her vacations have started, she doesn't have anything to do. Instead of spending her time doing nothing, she can spend it with y'all. She'll even do the housework. In this way she'll atleast learn something. What say, Sam? Do you want to go with them?"
Sam couldn't belive her ears. "Spending an entire day with Boby?" Her hands started shaking at this thought. She saw that everyone were looking expectedly at her as if waiting for her answer. "I..I.. I'm okay with it, if they don't mind." "Why would we mind it?" asked Boby in a loud voice. He realised that and apologized to himself softly. Sam looked at Boby, with surprise. She could see Boby, trying hard to control his smile. Sam could feel her heart beating loudly and hands and legs shaking uncontrollably. "Well then, go and get ready!" said her mother as she motioned Sam to pack her clothes for the trip.
After 10 minutes, Sam came out of her room, with a bag over her shoulders. She was wearing a yellow coloured, full sleeve top and denim jeans. "Are you ready?" asked Boby, smiling brightly. Sam nodded, blushing a bit.
"Then, let's go!" exclaimed Shammi. What will happen during the trip?
