CHAPTER 9
The Thief
Shin Hye-jeong:Mr. Lee said he's glad that I thought about coming back to work for the Yook family.
I work out the day before I officially start working again to get my muscles back to their senses. And maybe to get a sense of my old self back. I know my whole system is being shaken up by Sungjae. I hate that he's making his mark in my life. I hate that he's trying to break the ice walls I've built so hard for so many years around me.
"So, you're back to work tomorrow?" Seolhyun asks me. She's been also acting weird towards me after her first date with Sungjae. I could only wish he didn't tell her anything.
I nod. "Yeah. I better be." She just stares at me for a while. My brows furrow. "What?" I ask.
She shakes her head. "I'm still amazed how you moved so fast and acted so expertly to catch that snatcher."
I hide my surprise. "Exercise, Seolhyun. Exercise." I reply with a grin.
Clearly, she doesn't know about me being a secret agent. I told her I was working in a shopping mall as a sale's lady.
She nods. "Okay."
But she's quiet the whole day which is very unusual. She should be blabbering about his date with Sungjae now.
I sigh. I really couldn't help asking to go home that day. I just wasn't feeling well. I wonder what they did after that, but some part of me somehow doesn't want to know.
I come out of my room when I hear Seolhyun cooking. "Sorry, there's only one of this. Just cook another for yourself." She says quietly.
I'm taken aback. She used to cook for me. It's probably nothing. It's probably really just not enough.
Still, I can't help watching her warily as I eat. Is she acting strange or is it me who's different? Am I guilty for calling her a friend and not telling her everything that I've been hiding?

I wake up panting the next morning. I've dreamed of my mother again for the first time after a long time. It's a nightmare. The scene when she was dying always send shivers down my spine and break my heart in pieces all over again. I want to cry but no tears fall. Maybe I'm just all cried out now.
I get up, take a shower and get dressed to get back to work. I leave Seolhyun still sleeping.
I have a lot of things going on in my mindㅡincluding the guy who's waiting for me outside their mansion early in the morning.
Sungjae smiles when he sees my car approaching. "Good morning!"
I just give him a nod and park my car. I look at him from head to toe and get annoyed because he is perfection.
He smirks. "Done checking me out?"
I frown, but I feel something in my stomach. Maybe I'm just hungry since I didn't eat breakfast. "You're not going to school?" I ask instead.
He shakes his head. "We're staying inside."
"Excuse me? We?"
He nods. "Yeah... I want to talk to you."
"You're already talking to me."
He frowns. "You talk so much for a bodyguard."
My jaw drops. "That's because I'm not aㅡ" But he already walks quickly back to the mansion.
