She didn't know what to think. She could only hear the same two words repeating themselves over and over in her head, like an endless loop. She desperately wished she could silence it. She's gone. She didn't know she could feel so broken. That it could feel like her heart was ripped from her chest, torn apart, and shoved back in. Her whole world was destroyed.
Elsa knew there was a chance that something like this could happen. The second she realized she wasn't showing any aging after becoming the fifth spirit, she knew. She knew that there was a possibility she would outlive Honeymaren.
But she didn't know it would be so soon.
An accident. It was just some accident.
Some horrible, freak accident that left Elsa a widow. Her sun was gone. Her Maren.
She didn't know how to feel as she stood through the funeral. Everyone would send her sympathetic gazes as they took note of her emotions. She felt numb and she guessed it showed through. What she didn't notice was that flurries began to cascade down from the sky. She could tell people were worried about her. But that didn't matter to her right now. Maren was gone. She stared at the fresh tombstone that would mark her place on the earth. Her ashes would be scattered in the forest as she wanted, but everyone agreed her name deserved to be marked.
She snapped out of her thoughts as she noticed the ceremony coming to a close and watched as her wife's ashes were scattered. She missed most of the ceremony. Because all she could think was that she was gone and Elsa I wasn't there.
"Thank you everyone for coming." Yelana spoke. The ceremony was over. But Elsa couldn't leave her yet. As the last of the guests left, Elsa crept closer to the grave. A sob bubbled up and escaped before she could stop it. She sank to her knees in front of the tombstone as her tears flowed.
"I'm sorry my love. My sunshine. I wasn't there. I could have stopped it." She couldn't continue as her sobs grew louder. But she knew she could never love anyone again. Not after her Maren. Her sun. Her love for the rest of her life.
"Always my love. I'll love you always."
