The gloom coming from the edges of the door cast beams that reminded me of a flashbomb. Alice, still captivated in the agitation of the tab, opened the door.
The mind searing explosion that followed left us blinded for a moment, and when we opened our eyes, we stood dumbfounded. What lay behind our pupils was a virtual battle scarred landscape, ashes drifting to cover the sky in a veil of gray filth.
I glanced at Alice for approval that I wasn't imagining the scene we had been in earlier before the tab appeared, but as I saw her eyes register the clearing, horror slowly seeping into her expression, my veins ran cold.
Alice mumbled under her cold breathe, hot air causing a puff of air to escape her pinched lips. I waited for that punch of insanity that usually rushed me awake from a dream.
But...it never arrived. After shock seemed to drizzle my entire being, as Alice slowly tried moving a paralyzed leg.
Inhaling the polluted air, I calmed my veins gradually. Fear cleared out of my fogged in skull, as I walked past Alice with a stern pace. Her gaze traveled to mine, and she realized my movement, unsure of whether to follow.
However, she ignored her fear, and I lead us both into the decaying world of a lost kingdom.
"Where the hell are we?" Alice rhetorically asked. Ashes caught in her hair, and I softly pulled her black hood up.
My answer was simply the shake of my head, making Alice's eyes wince with hopelessness.
We always knew the answers to problems, we were known for our implicit thoughts that seemed to know everything.
It seemed so out of place to not know anything, to not have a small idea of how this happened.
The only thing we did know...was that we were transported into a videogame.
How do we get out? That's what feared us both tremendously.
