This is from the end of episode 38 and the beginning of my personal favorite episode 39. I have published this here in order to share easily with specific people who already know what is going on lol!
Mei found what she sought much sooner then expected. Her bone weariness from the night before dictating her actions as much as her intentions, seeking the solace and privacy of her room. A desire that lived alongside her need to find, question and thank the one her thoughts and turned to.
She was startled to find him there as she slid open her door, startled but not really surprised. he was often where he shouldn't have been, if it was where she was. Never more then a few paces behind her, moving with the coordinated grace of the purposeful and determined.
The thought that he might have been waiting for her wafted through her mind just as the breeze down the airy and open hall gentled in behind her into the room, rustling his dark hair as he studied her. His sharp eyes answering her as readily as his words. Of course he had been waiting.
"There you are," He began, his tone deceptively light. "Where have you been?"
His long body was sat at the edge of her bed, strong arms resting on spread and bent knees, as his fingers laced together, completing his casual posture. But Mei could see the stiffness in his spine, the tightness of his shoulders, all of which spelled out danger, but it was his eyes that gave him fully away. There was no lie in their hard glint and penetrating stare, he had purpose here, but she also had need of him. Maybe it was best to try and sidestep, gently evade and avoid his coming storm if possible.
"Well...I..." She hesitated, unwilling to outright lie but also wishing to remain obtuse. "I had a difficult night. It's a lot to explain, but I need to speak to you." She paused again, ensuring his full attention, and she had it. "I'ts about Daisuke."
His stiffness evolved to clenching fingers at her words, and it did not go unnoticed.
"Before we talk about your brother," His voice was soft but firm, a tinge of a much deeper distress barely observable. "could you elaborate a bit more on 'A difficult night?'" His eyes captured hers as he dropped his challenge at her feet. "Am I to assume you spent it sleeping with Katsu again?"
Mei felt her brow crinkle as she absorbed his controlled, seething heat as it washed over her. She remembered the last time something like this had happened. His reaction had been volatile and confusing, but he had promised hadn't he? To be better about just this sort of thing? To not wield shame as he might a staff to batter and bruise her into his version of submission? He had promised, and Mei resolved to trust in his word, to keep a cool head and get through this awkwardness.
"The last time I saw you at the banquet, you were talking to Hayashi. Did everything go alright?" He asked, and Mei noticed a deliberate softening of his body. Like he too was remembering his words of reconciliation and was attempting to keep them. "Because, by the time I'd returned from changing out of my King's attire, you were gone. But, I'd noticed Katsu had disappeared as well." He drew breath, careful with his next sentence. "So my assumption was that he was likely with you."
Author's note: This is unfinished and is meant as a sort of sample. I'll let you know if I finish it and where it is if anywhere.-Also of note, I don't own these characters or this story. I am merely performing an unauthorized conversion into prose of one of my favorite wetoons. It's not even fanfiction lol.
