"All magic comes with a price"

Naruto sighed and rubbed his baby boy's head in a smooth pattern. The 7-year-old had been munching on some pineapples and grapes for his snack time while his mother read to him ninja stories.

His first and only son, Menma he calls him, has a striking resemblance to his mother in a way. Almost a dark version of him. He took after his father as well, just not as much. He remembered how bummed out he felt when Menma came out with a mop of raven hair instead of blond. Maybe the second one....

Menma placed his big chunk of yellow fruit down and stared up at his mama as Naruto finished the last story he was going to tell him before his bedtime story.

"Hey, mama?" His sweet little boy said suddenly, knocking Naruto out of his happy gaze. "You and papa were shinobi too, right?"

"That's correct, Menma. I'm happy you remembered" Naruto replied.

"Can you tell me about it?" He asked suddenly and Naruto looked down at him with a look of surprise.

"Well, me and papa weren't exactly good shinobi..."

"But I still wanna know" if Menma's father were here, he'd say 'stubborn little brat'.

Naruto chuckled and picked up the plate of unfinished fruit and placed it into their kitchen. "Come on, it's time for bed. I'll tell you the story tomorrow for storytime" Menma pouted but then nodded as he followed his mother into his bedroom.

...

Naruto hummed as he finished washing the rest of the dishes in the sink. It would only be a matter of time before his husband would be back and he wanted some alone time with him. No dirty dishes will get in the way of that.

He turned off the water happily and bounced to his shared room with his husband. He quickly took off his apron and street clothes and put on some shorts and a t-shirt (both having his husband's clan symbol on them).

He trailed into the living room with a bottle of red wine in hand. Oh yes, tonight would be lovely.

He heard the soft click of the front door opening and he rushed to the door to greet his husband.

Sasuke, as stoic as he is, was what you could say 'surprised'. He was tackled and he almost hit his head on the front door due to the force of Naruto throwing himself on him. "Dobe" Sasuke rolled his eyes and kissed Naruto as he was so desperately asking for it. "What's with the sudden excitement?"

"Are you kidding me, you bastard? You've been gone for a month!" Naruto grumbled and pulled the two up to their feet.

"A month isn't that long" Sasuke replied as he walked into the kitchen to place all his gear into a bag- as he always did whenever he got back- and he trailed into the kitchen searching for food.

"To you, Menma missed you sick you know!" Naruto yelled back.

"Is he sleeping?" A stupid question, he knows. Of course his son would be sleeping at this time of night. If he wasn't he would have taken the time to scold Naruto again.

Naruto nodded "I made curry earlier...it's a bit cold but you can warm it up" Naruto called as he disappeared further into the living room. Sasuke replied with a 'hn' and spotted the curry Naruto mentioned. He noted that there were tomatoes on the side- something he and his son loved- and he mentally smiled.
