Early Life:

Elsie Barbara Parker-Downey was born to Robert Downey jr. and Sarah Jessica Parker. Her parents split when she was only a few months old due to her father's drug problems, this also leading to her father not being allowed to see her without supervision for more than an hour because of a court order deeming RDJ was at the time unfit following multiple arrests. When Parker-Downey was five, however, after growing concerns from her family her mother stopped allowing RDJ near their daughter all together and when she was nine her mother sought to terminate her father's parental rights to her.

She lived full time with her mother and step-father Matthew Broderick in New York, and according to her had "no contact" with her biological father until she was twelve having spent the past seven years on the other side of the country from her father and paternal family viewing Broderick as her father. In November 2004 on the Oprah Winfrey show, RDJ expressed the heartache he once again experienced after being granted permission from a Los Angeles judge to see her on her twelfth birthday the year before after passing another drug test and having remained clean and sober for three months, revealing that because of the drug abuse he could not "recall her birth or much of the little time I had when she was a baby so seeing her was like I been stabbed in the heart" admitting that the single picture of the infant Elsie made him realize that he had missed everything in those "wasted years" and was moved to tears when she forgave him and accepted him back as part of her life without hesitation. In 2008, Parker-Downey moved to Los Angeles moving in with her father and stepmom ahead of her sweet sixteenth birthday. That October, upon her birthday, Robert and Susan threw her a huge sweet sixteen party with hundreds of balloons, flowers, several blow up games, several ball pits, a DJ, and a dance floor the gifts in which also included her first car and a locket from Tiffany and Co. which she still wears often when not filming and explained that the contents inside the locker are precious to her and her father, her stepmom Susan revealing not even she knows what is inside but respects the privacy stating "they have been through a lot, and were apart so long if anyone deserves to have secrets and something that is all their own to cherish it's those two."
