valencia kwan thinks the one to hers is completely incompetent and downright rude... too bad that his smile is contagious. jake likes to think of himself as an alright guy, it's just that val tends to bring out a nasty side of him– a side that has him going out of his way to make sure she isn't struggling with her school work.
butting heads ever since year 8 geography, a silent vow was made between the two that consisted of trumping the other in either getting the highest mark in an assessment, or in coming first in whatever subject out of the entire grade. everyone caught onto their rivalry eventually and had poked fun at the situation, but even though valencia and jake turned to throwing snarky remarks at each other and feigning a more lighthearted relationship– they were still after each others' asses.
though at the start of their senior years, new sets of responsibilities, opportunities and adversities arise. how far can half-meant banter and pulsing rivalry go in drowning out the inevitable: feeling burnt out?
