CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

-: fifth year :-

── IN WHICH THE MORNING
ARRIVES

. . .

Celeste felt considerably more tired than usual when she woke up the next morning, the amber glow of the automatic Slytherin lamps awaiting her concious arrival from her slumber.

She had stumbled, exhausted, into the dorms well after midnight the next before. After delivering the invitations to each of the dorms with the help of the Lupin boy, the pair of opposing Quidditch captains had settled down onto the windowsill seat of the Slytherin common room, silhouettes framed by the murky depths of the lake held back by the glass windows.

Teddy had decided to try his luck and let his hair morph back into the usual, familar bright blue. Of course, this was met by protests from Celeste - despite the late hours she was still considerably paranoid about someone wandering into the room and spotting her with the Hufflepuff.

That would result in an immediate loss of respect and everything would be ruined; it was one thing being seen up late, but being beside someone like Teddy Lupin was practically a death sentence. He was a Hufflepuff and the captain of the Quidditch team - she was asking for a rebellion at that point.

But oddly enough, Celeste found herself not all that bothered by the looming threat of being discovered to have snuck someone into the elusive Slytherin common room, and was just grateful to spend a couple, uninterrupted hours with her best friend that weren't in an abandoned classroom.

But in one sense, she paid the price for it in other ways than being discovered and losing her crown; she was exhausted when she woke up in her emerald-swathed four poster bed.

She seemed to have pulled on her pajama shirt back to front in her rush to change the night before, as she found out when both Bridget and Evie gave bed strange looks when she pulled back the privacy curtains.

Celeste rolled her eyes in reply to them as she collected up her uniform and disappeared through into the en-suite bathroom to have a quick shower before she put it on.

With her uniform pulled on - this time it consisted of a pinafore made up out several pieces of old school skirts combined, a short sleeved blouse and a decorative bow in a green material tied around her collar instead of her tie.

In the centre of the bow was an intricate snake brooch with glittering emerald eyes. The buttons on her pinafore were pure silver, and the sole of her heeled boots had an imprint of a snake. She had opted for fishnets over anything else, and in certain lights they would glitter green whilst appearing black in others.

Sitting herself down in front of her dressing table, Celeste got to work on the rest of her appearance. Several necklaces were layered around her neck, from the more traditional ones to pearls, another with a ring hanging in the middle like a charm. A pearl bracelet was attached to her wrist, and elegant rings were dotted over a couple of her fingers.

Her hair was dried by magic, and now smelt rather strongly of her jasmine and neroli shampoo and conditioner. It was curled and patted into place, a dark green velvet headband slid into place. As always, her makeup was natural with hints of glam, and after brushing her teeth and applying heavy coats of lipgloss and concealer to hide the bags under her eyes, Evie and Bridget deemed it safe to talk.

"I'm guessing last night went well then?" Bridget sidled up to her best friend as she began to pack her bag for the day.

"Update on the invitations?" Evie appeared on the otherside, checklist in hands.

"It went very well." Celeste replied as she slid her emergency makeup bag into the depths. "And they're all delivered." All except one, which lay in the locked drawer of Celeste's dressing table.

"Good." Evie replied, reaching for a pen and was finally able to check that off. "Now come on, we need to get to breakfast so we can pass all of the recipients get all excited!"

Celeste let out a sigh, silently contemplating over a decision. You two go ahead. Make sure I get the best croissants and fruit and I want my coffee prepared when I get there."

Bridget and Evie, putting down the sudden bouts of bossyness just a result of her being tired, didn't hesitate before leaving, heels clicking away in the hallway outside.

With the two girls gone, Celeste felt as if she could properly relax again, letting herself slouch as she sat down at her dressing table, reaching to the arrangement of perfume bottles amd selecting one, extracting it from the collection and reaching into the gap where it was sat, hand returning with a key.

The key opened the locked drawer, which Celeste was quick to open and remove the contents, sliding the final envelope into her handbag.

She stood up, taking the perfume and spraying it over her, putting just those little extra bits on her wrists, neck and behind her ears. With that, she returned the key to it's hiding spot and placed the pretty perfume back over it.

Only then could she follow her friends up to the Great Hall, very much ready to survey the array lf excited faces that awaited her.
