He does have contact with nature, but when it's burned down, it takes him a year to restore nature to where it's Burned. Which is why he stares at Blaze very over protectively since he knows that his power is fire, and he might burn down the inkwell forest. Which James clearly has a reason why he sometimes put up his middle finger at him.
