I stared at the lavender envelope in my hands. Could this be it? The one thing that I asked for for Christmas? I bit my lower lip as I made a slight tear in the paper.
“Why is Macie taking so long!” My little four year old sister, Carly, whined. I tore open the envelope and my jaw dropped when I saw what was inside. Carefully, I pulled out the two five-inch stubs of paper and let out a joyful squeal. I ran over to my parents and squeezed them in a bear hug.
“Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!” I jumped up and down, staring at the pieces of paper in my hand. “Can I call Natalie?” I asked. My parents nodded their heads and I dashed upstairs to my room, grabbed my phone, and flopped onto the bed, Natalie’s number already dialing.
“NAT!” I exclaimed when I heard a groggy hello on the other end.
“Oh, hey Macie, Merry Christmas!”
“What, did you just wake up or something? You sound dead tired haha,”
“Ugh, yeah. You know the Moyer tradition. Wake up at almost noon on Christmas.” Natalie joked.
“Well I know something that will really wake you up!”
“Mhmm?” She asked, obviously still half asleep.
“ONE DIRECTION TICKETS!!” I shrieked. There was silence on the other end, and then Natalie let out a high pitched scream.
“WHAT?! Okay I am so awake now!!”
“Can you believe it!?”
“Oh my gosh that’s amazing!!!”
“I know! And guess what?”
“What?”
“YOU’RE COMING WITH ME!” I squealed. I could hear the phone drop onto the ground and Natalie fumbling to pick it up. When she finally reoriented herself, she was stuttering, obviously appalled.
“W-what? Oh my gosh Macie, what!?”
“It’s the One Thing I asked for for Christmas! For you and me to go to a One Direction concert....together!”
“Haha ‘One Thing’, I like what you did there,” Natalie giggled. “Oh my gosh, when is the concert?!”
“January 2nd! And you’ll never guess where!”
“New York?” Natalie offered. It was a logical guess, seeing as we both lived only forty minutes away from the city.
“Nope!” I replied, letting her think for a bit longer. But I couldn’t wait, I had to tell her. “Los Angeles!”
“WHAT?!” She screamed.
“I know!!!”
“Wow your parents must have gotten them way in advance! January second in LA. That’s crazy! Macie, we’re going to Los Angeles together!”
