Chapter 32: Showering (Ace's POV)
I was awake again, but it was now the next morning and her alarm was about to go off in a few minutes. I was lying beside her still, staring at her, in the most non-creepy way possible. I was more so just observing her. Trying to figure her out. Trying to figure out if she could ever really hurt me, physically speaking. If I really have to do all this, take all these precautions, play all these tricks and games, and most importantly, stop myself from liking her. Because I don't want to do that, it's just something I have to do. Keep her more or less at arm's length to save myself.
She's let me in, though, that's how I feel. She's letting me get closer to her, she's trusting me. I feel like I should do the same. I just have to keep in mind what she could do and why she actually married me, even if she's changed her mind.
I brushed her hair out of her eyes, stroking her cheek with the back of my hand. "Gianna," I mumbled.
She didn't even stir. She slept like a baby the entire night and she looked adorable. When she woke up that one time, I couldn't sleep because I was very conscious of the fact that she was in bed beside me, half-naked. It was very distracting. And I wouldn't be surprised if I really was hard when she made that joke. But luckily for me, or maybe unluckily, I don't know, she put her shirt on after that.
"Wife." I talked a little louder, still stroking her cheek.
She stirred, her brows furrowing in distress.
"Gianna, you have to wake up. We both have to get to work, come on," I sang, leaning forward and pecking her cheek.
She sighed and rubbed her eyes before slowly opening them. "What time is it?" She squinted at me, closing one eye. Her alarm rang on cue and she let out a huff before rolling over and turning it off. She normally gets out of bed after turning it off right away. Or she sits up, at least. But she rolled back over to me today, throwing her leg over mine and curling up against me.
"What are you doing?" I asked, looking down at the way she was tangled with me.
"I have a plan," she murmured.
"Yeah? What's that?"
"Showering you with kisses today."
"Not that I'm complaining, but why?" I smiled to myself, still resisting the urge to run my fingers through her hair. I have yet to do that.
"Why will you be showering me with kisses?"
"Consider it a 'thank you' for what you did last night."
"Ah, okay. I see."
She sighed after a while and looked up at me. "Morning."
"Morning," I smiled.
She leaned up, pecking my cheek, and then rolled back to her side, sitting up. She grabbed her hair tie off the nightstand and pulled her hair back in a ponytail.
I stood up, joining her in the bathroom, both of us brushing our teeth together. After that, she turned to go out and pick out her outfit, both of us kissing in between, while she went and did that, I went and showered. By the time I came back out, she had her outfit picked and her purse packed, and then she would go shower while I got dressed. That's our routine. Then I would linger out and wait for both her and the breakfast to be prepared. She opened the door and came out in a towel with her hair damp.
"Will you come by today, little Phoenix?" I asked while she grabbed her clothes.
"If I have time, of course, Allister," she said, going back into the bathroom, closing the door. She got dressed and then pulled it back open, leaving it open while she brushed her hair and then grabbed her blowdryer.
