Push Mrs. , I see the head. You're doing great," said the doctor.
The woman that laid on the bed tightly squeezed her husband's hand as she followed the doctor's orders and pushed. The pain was excruciating to say the least but then again she had gone through this type of pain four years ago. Though it wasn't as bad as this time she was still a bit used to it.
And when the woman heard the loud wail of her new child she couldn't help but sigh in relief. She had finally gotten the thing out of her.
"Congratulations Mr. And Mrs. Clemountime, you've given birth to a baby girl," The male doctor informed before he handed the child off to the midwives.
"You heard him Lisa, we have a baby girl," the husband said as he smiled sweetly down at his sweaty wife.
"A girl?" Lisa smiled.
But her smile soon faded when she heard the loud gasp of one of the midwives.
"What is it?" Asked the doctor as he rushed up to the midwives.
"She's.." one of the women began as she pulled forward the young child's small ear. To reveal to the doctor the small black mark there.
The doctor's eyes widened.
He couldn't believe his eyes, of all the places the girl, who was meant to save their entire species. Could've been born, she was born at his hospital. And the man couldn't help but smile, but when he looked down at the small clueless child. His smile immediately vanished.
"Doctor?" Came the small weak voice of Lisa. As the new mother sat up with the help of her husband.
"What's wrong with my baby?"
The doctor stared down at the child before he sighed and turned to the couple.
It was no use to keep anything quiet, so the doctor just said everything.
"Well Mrs. Clemontime, it may seem that your daughter has the mark of The Devil's Bride," explained the doctor.
"What?" Shrieked Lisa as she stared open mouthed at the doctor.
The doctor sighed before he gestured for one of the midwives to bring the child forward.
"Check behind her left ear," he said as the child was placed in her mother's arms.
Lisa quickly did as told and pulled her daughter's small ear forward. And true to the doctor's words, right behind the baby's ear was a dark imprint of a skull with the words Devil's Bride beneath it in small cursive letters.
"I can't believe it,'' the father exclaimed as his wife began to cry.
"It is a lot to take in but the good thing is that your daughter would be the savior of our entire species. She'd be a hero," one of the midwives tried to encourage but Lisa just shook her head.
"That's not good enough, those demons are monsters. I don't want my daughter to have to marry their prince," Lisa said between tears.
"Lisa, don't get yourself worked up. We have to grow her up to become a perfect bride. That way she has a better chance of pleasing the Demon prince and not being killed. That's all we can do," the husband said as he rubbed up and down his wife's back in an attempt to comfort her.
Lisa took a deep breath after she had nodded her agreement before she looked down at the sleeping child in her hands.
And for some reason she couldn't help but smile when the child opened her eyes.
"Her eyes are so green, almost emerald," sadly exclaimed the father.
"It's another sign that she was chosen to be the Bride," Lisa said as she caraseed her daughter's soft cheeks.
Lisa couldn't help but admire how beautiful her new born was. The newborn had the whitest skin and the darkest hair. Her eyes were the brightest emerald, and Lisa just knew that everyone would know exactly who her daughter is by only her eyes. As no one had any type of green eyes. Because they were reserved for the Devil's bride.
"What's her name?" Asked one of the midwives in an attempt to change the bitter mood.
Lisa looked up at her before she looked up at her husband.
"You choose dear," said the husband and Lisa nodded before she looked back down at her baby.
I'll name you Athena. And she'll be known as Athena, the Devil's Bride."
