Part 5 : The Living Arrangement

Viraj woke up first and looked at the girl sleeping beside her, he gave a nudge to wake her up but to the tired sleepy head Sanjana that was not enough.

"Doctor!! Wake up!!" Viraj said loudly that startled Sanjana and woke her up. Sanjana was shocked seeing the position she was sleeping in, her head was on his shoulder and she was hugging his arm as her life depended on it. Moving away as fast she can Sanjana murmured a sorry to him.

"That's why I don't like to take a break"

"It's not just my fault even you were asleep"

"Thaa.. that is because you were sleeping. Now let's move. The sun has risen and it's not dark anymore, anyone can easily spot us and with these khaki uniform of mine even you will be in danger"

"I am sure we are closer to the village, we walked a lot"

"I hope" Viraj replies and stands up and starts walking with a lot of pain, the pain in his leg has become worse when compared to earlier, Viraj flinches again when Sanjana speaks

"I have some pain killers with me you should eat them"

"Okay but if you feel there is danger and I am slowing you down you should leave me and run"
Viraj replies gulps the medicines Sanjana hand over to him,
"I am not gonna leave you in this condition"

"It's my duty to keep you safe"

"And as a doctor, it's my duty to make sure you are alright before I leave you"

"Are you always this stubborn?" Viraj asks shaking his head,

"Usually" Sanjana replies and they continue their walk.

They stop walking when they start seeing few huts and houses,

Sanjana exclaims, "We have reached the end of the forest... I am so tired and hungry"

"Shhh... don't make much noise, I see few jeeps of terrorist. I think you should take out your coat and go as a normal civilian. Stay somewhere at the village and as soon as the situation calms down leave and go back to the main headquarters"

"And what do you plan to do"

"I haven't thought about it, but I can go to the village like this and create a problem for the villagers"

"Why would you be a problem"

"I am an army major in a uniform do you think those terrorists will let me stay in the village peacefully"

"But you can't go back to the campsite nor you can stay in the forest. Your leg needs immediate treatment"

"I have no choice"

"Why don't you understand you are limping already if it gets worse your leg will have to be amputated"

"Those terrorists they probably know me I cannot put more life's in danger"

"You wait here, I have an idea. Don't go anywhere I will be back soon"

"What do you plan on doing?"

"You just wait"

"Don't do anything stupid"

"You just wait and watch my smartness" Sanjana replies with determination and plan ready in her mind. Leaving her kit and coat, Sanjana covers her head with a dupatta and leaves. Leaving a worried and confused Viraj behind.
