"Woah! Sweetie, look! There's even a pond here!" I exclaim as I run to the edge of the water, full of excitement. Trees were closely scattered all along, their branches high hanging but low enough to grab onto. Large buttercups, even bigger than the size of carnations, scattered around the edge of the pond. You could see the entire ecosystem. Crayfish, fish and even frogs happily hopping from lily pad to dive in the water.
"Hey, good job!" The character says from behind me. The one that kept me sane while I had no one. We had been at this for hours now, searching through the place we found ourselves in. He steps beside me and places his hand on my shoulder. I look up at him with a proud smile. He chuckles a bit before looking at the pond with me. I latch onto his arm with a happy giggle as we stare. My eyes fall off the pond and onto some nearby rocks.
"Jackpot!" I say, letting go and reaching down for them. "Perfect skipping stones!" I grab a handle and start attempting to skip some.
"Hey, wait a second," He says, causing me to stop. He then grabs one of the smaller pebbles to look at it. "This one reminds me of you!" As he stood at around 5'6, he was much taller than me. I was only 5 feet. So, I laugh while letting a long,
"Wooooow-" He laughs along as he says,
"I didn't mean it like that! It's just that..." He holds it up to my eyes. I turn my whole body to face him.
"It kind of has a pink color to it! And pipeline punch is your favorite Monster, right?"
"Hey, you remembered! And yeah, I see what you mean now." The rock definitely had that type of hue in its color. Wonder how it got like that. I then felt a soft hand place itself under my chin and tilt my head up. My eyes lock into his as I can't help but smile.
"I guess I should call you my pebble then!" He states with his iconic smile. My face goes red as what he just said sets in. I giggle and happy stim, shaking my hands. Cute couple nicknames have something I've always adored. They've always just been so cute to me, and I don't truly know why.
"Then I'll call you my bolder!" I say happily. He laughs along with me as we begin to hug. I sink into his arms, never wanting to let go. It was the only place I felt safe. It... Felt like home. A home I never had. A home I would never let go of. We hug for what feels like a cherry-toned eternity. As we do, he speaks.
"Hey, you... You still now I'm not actually, uh, here... Right?" I hold onto him tighter, wanting to forget again. My smile slips away as he says this. I gently nod, already feeling tears form in my eyes. I would probably have to say goodbye soon. I hide my face into his chest as I start to lightly sob. He stokes my hair as he attempts to comfort me.
"I don't want to say goodbye..." I say with a shaky voice.
"I know... I don't want to either..." He says, his voice now low and calming. He normally would be saying, 'Hey! Things will work out in the end!' but he knew better this time. He knew it wouldn't be better. My sobs grow stronger as time goes on.
"I love you, alright...? I love you, pebble..." He says, clearly speaking through his own tears. I nod as I say,
"I love you too!' There then was a moment of silence between us. I look up at him and suddenly the forest was gone. It was just us in a black void. I clutch onto him, fearful of letting go. I start crying harder.
"No, no! I'm not ready to let go! Please don't let me go!" I choke out. He simply starts crying more on his end, takes one hand, and puts it on my cheek. His hand felt light as his body started to slowly fade.
"It's okay... We'll meet again someday! I promise! And it would be unmanly for me to break that promise." He says, trying his best to smile. His smile could brighten the world.
"I love you, pebble..." He says once last time.
"I love you too, my boulder..." He then gives his smile one last time as he fades out of existence.
