"If you join our ranks, Ms Kirai, it'll only bring benefits to you."

Kira stared at the middle-aged woman in front of her, glaring hard at her. What did some old, scarred mafia person, why did she need to recruit her, a 16-year-old girl? Sure she knew how to use weapons, but only to defend herself, never to purposely harm others. Besides, why would she need to join something so dangerous?

"What?"

"You've already proven to be skilled when it comes to weaponry, and we have a similar enemy. If you join our ranks, it'll only bring benefits to you."

"Yeah, no thanks Oldy. I'm dealing with something called grief right now, the last thing I need is to join some dangerous mafia for something as stupid as money, go find someone else." The bronze-haired girl turned on her heel starting to walk off.

"The mafia that killed your brother, Masaru, they are an old enemy of ours. If you join us, we can promise you will get revenge on the ones who took your brothers life." She stopped dead in her tracks, her olive green eyes wide.

...Revenge on the ones who took her brothers life?

-Flashback to: 5 days ago-
Two teens stood outside their school building, grinning mischievously at each other.

"You go that route, and I'll go this one," The oldest, a girl, explained, pointing in two opposite directions, "whoever gets home first has to do the dishes."

The youngest, a boy, had a wide smile, showing the gap in his teeth as he got in position to run, "Oh I'm so going to beat you Kira!"

The older girl laughed and got in position as well, "You wish Saru!" She taunted, before starting the count down.

"3..."
"2..."
"1..."
"GO!" The two siblings sprinted in their opposite directions, the sounds of their sneakers pounding against the sidewalk causing nearby people to watch in confusion.

After about 10 minutes, Kira made it home, checking the entire house for any signs of her brother. 'I won! Take that Masaru!' She smiled to herself, taking off her school clothes and folding them into a neat pile before taking a bath.

(Smol timeskip brought to you by lazy Esti)

"Kira, have you seen your brother? It's been an hour and a half." Her father asked, looking at Kira who was now sitting on the couch, flipping through TV.

"No... we were having a race to see who could get home the fastest using opposite routes." The young girl replied, trying to seem nonchalant, but inside she felt sick. What if her brother had gotten lost or ran into some bullies or-

"We interrupt our normal news schedule with some breaking news; another young boy has been murdered at the hands of the Unione Corse Mafia. Bystanders said he was shot at least 12 times, one bullet being a fatal shot to the brain."
Kira stopped on this channel as her parents joined her on the couch, brows furrowed in worry. Sitting up straight, she saw the now taped off area, within being a body of..

Masaru?

No.
Nonono no- that wasn't Masaru hat couldn't be Masaru it had to be someone else-

"The young boy had on a backpack with a tag that gave police his name: Masaru Azuma."

"No." Kira stood up, her fists clenched as her mother let out a soft, choked sob. She ran out the door, sprinting towards wherever the hell Masaru was, pushing through crowds up people who had flocked the murder scene. "No no no-"

"Saru!" She screamed, being helped back by onlookers as she reached out to the corpse of her now deceased brother, pleading for them to let her see her brother as tears welled up in her eyes.

"Saru!"
-End of Flashback-

"So Ms. Kirai, what shall it be? Join our ranks and get revenge on the ones who stole Masaru's life, or continue to drown in your sorrows and do nothing to preserve the honor of your brother?"

The young lady grit her teeth, his fist clenching tight as she resisted the urge to punch this old woman. How dare this woman refer to her younger brother as if she had known him personally, she should be thankful Kira hadn't decided to blow her head off right there-

"Well Ms Kirai-"

"First off, my name's Kira, not Kirai; Kirai is hate, I have no hatred in my heart. Second of all, take me to your fucking leader or whatever, I'll join on the account of my brother, and only on that account." She spat out bitterly.

"Noted. My name is Annette Mercheri. Welcome to the-"

"Cut that welcoming bullcrap and take me to your fucking leader before I change my mind." Kira hissed. The woman– Annette– smiled, though it was far from warm and inviting.

"Let us go then, you have a lot to learn, Kirai." And with that they both started down a darkened alleyway.

O h o h o .
That flashback was a pain to write-

Also fun fact: Unione Corse is an actual mafia/mob in Marseille, France.
Another fun fact: this isn't spell checked or anything because I'm that tired.
