Favorite Mistake

Valentina's POV
Hey, my name is Valentina Fabri. I'm a 22 year old female. My birthday is April 2. I live in Los Angeles, but I was born in Venice, Italy. I'm Latina and Italian, making my mom a sweet Latina woman and my dad a tough Italian man. I have 2 older brothers, Antonio and Giovanni, I call them Toni and Gio. They're total crack jobs though. They got addicted after they got involved into the Mafia business when they were 15.

As you probably know, I lost my fiancé last week. I have never been more broken. I didn't leave my house for a little bit after his death, but my family and friends have come and gone to check on me. I didn't cry in front of them. I don't cry, my father says it shows that you're weak. Well, I didn't cry until Liam died. I've been trying to get back up on my feet. I was out of the office for two days, but went back after that. Everyone brings me small gifts here and there.

My father wants to retire and leave the Mafia in my hands since he doesn't trust my brothers. They completely lost it after drugs. Rehab didn't do anything. They've gone five times but they're still the same. My parents decided to just give up.

My assistant, Caio, brings me flowers everyday. He's the sweetest and has always been there for me when I'm upset.

Caio has been one of my best friends since high school. We had a "no feelings attached" pact. We were afraid it would ruin our friendship but I guess I wasn't fair when I became friends with Liam and didn't think about our friendship. But, I mainly just didn't like Caio in that way and he didn't like me in that way. Although, I don't think Caio and Liam liked each other very much. Caio was always warning me of Liam, saying he would break my heart, but he would be by my side regardless and Liam warned me that Caio liked me in a romantic way. I never took sides but I always thought their "theories" were a load of BS.

"Valentina!" I hear the familiar Italian accent while typing on my computer. My typing stops and I look at my doorway to wait for my father to appear any moment. "Vale." I hear again, but now he's standing in my door way, leaning against it."

"Si, papà?" I ask, looking up at him with curiosity.

"We have a Viper meeting tomorrow morning, be there early." He informs me looking down at me in my chair, face straight and strict. He's been under a lot of stress lately, while he prepares for his leave.

"Ok, papà, anything else?" I ask him curiosity still filling my eyes.

"Oh, yes, Liam's mother is here," he says to me as she appears behind my father and walks in my office. My face turns pale. I feel like vomiting. Anything that reminds me of Liam makes me emotional and sick to my stomach. I look at her and motion for her to sit in the chair in front of my desk. She does so, and then my father slowly leaves, closing the door behind him.

"How are you doing, honey?" She asks me, her bright blue eyes, like Liams' catching me off guard.

"I'm doing okay, still getting over it." I say to get as she grabs my hand, squeezing it to comfort me, giving me a sweet smile. Liam's dad isn't around anymore, as he got into a car accident when Liam was nine.

"It's okay to move on honey. Just know he's watching over you and will support any decision you make. You two will always love each other and hold a special place in each other's hearts. Take your time, find a guy who makes you happy along the way, just don't forget Liam." She says to me as my eyes fill with tears and slowly start falling down my face. Her eyes seeming to do the same.

I gave her a small smile, "Thank you, Evelyn. I will always love your son and it was awful to see him go soon." I tell her, as she then starts shaking, thinking about Liam.

She gets up, and hugs me tight then leaves. She walks out my office door and shuts it behind her. The moment she leaves, I clench my fists on my desk, and rest my head on them, as I sob and quiver. I takes a couple minutes until my tears stop. I know I will move on relationship wise soon enough, I'm a strong girl.
