Beautiful Anomaly: Spoken Word

By: Beauteous Jay

Tell me, what does it mean to be ‘beautiful’?

I’m pretty sure ya’ll tell me the usual

Long hair, hourglass figure and a beautiful face

She gotta be first class and walk around with beauty and grace

She has to dress to impress

Can’t be seen in nothin’ less

Face has be on point, not a flaw to be seen

Everybody gotta clear the way when she’s on the scene

As if she’s queen

Now tell me what does that make me?

Let me tell you what you see

A girl who prefers baggy shorts compared to a cute mini skirt

A girl who can’t even flirt

A girl who would prefer music from years ago compared to songs today

A girl who would rethink her personality day by day

Because what others and society has to say

“You’re not a boy, you’re a girl”

Someone tellin’ me that line makes my stomach curl

Havin’ that said to me, for 5 years, by people including my mother is a blow to the gut

Like a knife leaving a deep cut

“You’re not freaky enough”

Hold up tough stuff

Imma gonna need you to back up

I recall not even 2 minutes ago, I’m tellin’ you wassup

“I like you” I say, not “I want you”

Last time I check, you and I didn’t grew

To age 25, when I’m confessin’ how bad I want you

Nah, my brother, you see I got a different point of view

I’m 15 and you’re only a couple months to a year older

Tellin’ that line makes me think you can’t properly give a good girl the cold shoulder

“You’re too young”

You see that makes it hard for me to hold my tongue

A girl can’t confess how she feels for a brother?

Can’t simply say how she feels for another?

Without making it seems like she desires for something greater

Man, I never knew society can be such a hater

Lemme me tell it to ya straight

I may be young, but aren’t you too, mate?

You’re only a couple months to a year older, my homie

Don’t be tellin’ me somethin’ phoney

“You’re not my type”

Now this is something I don’t need to fully describe

Point blank simple

Pretty obvious like a pimple

I don’t meet ya standards to be called ya girl

You would probably prefer a girl with straight hair than wild natural curls

You would probably prefer a girl who loves to show off her body and curves

I’m more of a girl who preserves

Baggy shorts, baggy shirt, a hoodie and a pair of sneakers

I wouldn’t dare be a cheerleader, I rather chill on the bleachers

You would probably prefer a girl who would be there to cheer for you during practice

I’m more of a girl who would help you practice and being active

I don’t mind a mile run on a hot sunny day to break a sweat

Instead of being locked in the mini gym, knowin’ the bell wouldn’t ring as of yet

You would probably prefer a girl with a ‘I don’t a crescent of a damn’ attitude

Being among of the multitude

With a ‘I do what I want, when I want’ personality

Spittin’ out profanity

She’s out and wild

Can be herself and not care who sees or hears, similar to a child

A lil mama you know you can chill with and have fun

Yea, she’s the one

But guess what, my homie?

I’m not your one and only

Screw ya expectations

Because I’m not the girl in ya illustrations

I’m a girl who’s clever and witty

A girl doesn’t wear makeup and cute clothes just to feel pretty

I’m a girl who’s comments are passive and sarcastic

But at the same time, I can be enthusiastic

I love reading a good book

I find something interesting, I go ahead and take a look

God created me to be someone unique

And I know he doesn’t want me to buy society’s stupid belief

To all the fellas and society who find me an oddity

Lemme just say in all honesty

I never want to try to impress others who never loved me for who I am constantly

Screw ya expectations

I ain’t doing any type of translations

‘Cause in all honesty

I’m proud to be a beautiful anomaly

Just a lil something wrote over a weekend when I finally got a break from some of my high school work. Showed it to a couple friends and they say it was awesome, amazing, impressive, it-deserves-a-grammy-or-some-kind-of-reward (Pookie) etc. So I decided to post it on Wattpad. Yes all this stuff here is true.

It was my best friend from 4th grade who encouraged me to post it here. For alll you Fairytale lovers, go check out her book as well. Love ya Pookie, you'll always be one of my closest friends I ever known.

That's a wrap my wattpands. Love all ya'll and.... ONE!
