Just like that, a week passed. Wangji would wake up, bathe, write to his parents and brother, and then go wake Wei Wuxian up. As he had learnt on his first day there, Wei Wuxian slept irregularly and needed to be woken up in the morning, otherwise he would sleep till evening. Not that Wangji minded waking Wei Wuxian up. It gave him a chance to look at Wei Wuxian while he slept, so he could look all he wanted without getting teased by the latter.

Unfortunately for Wangji, Wei Wuxian woke up on his own that day. "Ah, Lan Zhan, good morning! Did you sleep well?" Wei Wuxian yawned. The night before, Jiang Cheng had challenged Wei Wuxian to stay up with him. They both ended up sleeping at 3 am in Wei Wuxian's room. As soon as Jiang Cheng woke up, he had dashed out of the room in a hurry, muttering how Wei Wuxian was a bad influence on him.

"Mn. I slept well. You look tired. Sleep."

"No. I want to go to breakfast with you. Mother said she wanted to eat with us today. Let's go!"

On their was there, Wei Wuxian chatttered on and on with Wangji about anything and everything in the world.
"Ah yes, didn't your brother's letter arrive yesterday night? What did he say?"

Lan Wangji tried his hardest to keep a straight face (which was not hard for a person who had three expressions in total). "Nothing. Just greetings."

"Is everyone at home okay?"

"Mn. Mother sends her regards to Madam Cangse. She may join Brother when he comes here."

"Yes! It's been so long since I met Lady Lan! Which reminds me!..."

Wei Wuxian continued his story. Wangji was glad. He had hoped that Wei Wuxian would not talk about the letters, because they were slightly embarrassing. He began to mentally recount everything that had transpired in the letters written by his brother and him.

The first one was written just after Wangji came to the Lotus Pier.

"Brother. You were right. Yunmeng is truly beautiful. I am glad to have come here. The hospitality of the Jiang Clan is amazing, and I don't lack anything here. To talk about Young Master Wei, he is truly a most astonishing person. I use astonishing for lack of better terms. I have never met a man like him, so beautiful yet so chaotic. If I had known I would like him so, I would have never refused to come to Yunmeng. He likes bunnies! I gave him a couple. I gave him Mother's hairpin too, and it suits him well. He wears it everyday, saying he will treasure it more than his life. I hope you can meet him soon, Brother. "

The response was a truly embarrassing letter, filled with teasing, but it posed an important question at the end, "When the time comes and we have to confirm our stance, do you wish to agree to this engagement?"

Wangji thought about it for a while. However, all doubts were thrown out of the window when Wangji saw Wei Wuxian holding the hand of a hurt disciple to help bandage it. The mere sight of it made Wangji's blood boil. How was he supposed to watch his Wei Ying marry another?

So he sent his brother a prompt reply.
"When the time comes, I will declare it in Lotus Pier myself to Wei Wuxian and his family. I hope that you will also send in a formal agreement from the Lans at that time. I truly wish to marry Wei Ying, brother."

This time around, his brother had replied with more teasing, and some love advice.
"Be nice to him, Wangji. Smile a little. Talk to him. Don't let him doubt your feelings for you. Also try to understand his feelings. I'm sure my little brother doesn't want to be insensitive towards his newfound love, but you tend to not realise it. As far as I know, Young Master Wei is confident and will not hide what he feels for you. Take a hint, little brother."
