"Do you regret what you did?"
"No," I replied. "Will it change the fact that I'm going to die?"
"YOU-!" the man enraged, paused, and laughed. "What did I expect from a cold-hearted woman?"
"Cold-hearted?" I repeated his words with a chilling tone.
"Yes, cold-hearted," he said. "Why else would you try to harm Acacia? I know you're jealous of her."
"That's right, I'm jealous," I said, my heart already worn out. "I'm jealous of the love I can never have."
I stared at him and wondered, 'Why did I have to fall in love with him? Because he showed me, love?'
I smiled bitterly at myself, I was such a fool. But it's too late.
---
The prison cell was dark and cold, I kept tossing and turning in my sleep. Suddenly, someone poured a bucket of cold water on me. I woke up shivering and dizzy.
"Get up, it's time for you to head out."
'Ah, the time has come...' I thought to myself.
The guards pulled me up and dragged me outside. Instantly, I was blinded by the sun after being in the dark prison cell for so long. I was in a disheveled state. Dark circles stood out in my pale face, my hair was a mess and I had not taken a bath in so long. I could see the ridicule and disdain in everyone's eyes. The guards dragged me forward as my chains clicked and clanked.
"KILL HER!" the crowd chanted.
Among the loud noises, I heard a little boy ask his mother, "Mom, why do the people want her to die?"
The mother covered the child's eyes with her hand and said, "That's because she's evil! You mustn't look at her. It's bad for you."
I stared at the woman coldly. The woman turned pale when she found out I heard her, but she regained her confidence when she remembered that I was going to die today.
The woman looked at me and snickered, "Heh, you deserved it."
Before I could even utter a reply, the guards forcefully grabbed me, practically tossing me to the execution platform. I gritted my teeth as I tried to ignore the pain of my wounds and sore limbs. The chains wrapped around my wrists and ankle clanked noisily as the guards threw me into a kneeling position, and the murmurs of the gathering crowd grew louder. I could feel the unsympathetic gaze of the people piercing through my skin.
Suddenly, everything fell silent when a deep gruff voice spoke, "Odette Helen Evingar, you are here today because you have committed a great sin."
I stayed quiet as I stared at the ground. This whole thing was taking too long.
"You have attempted to cause harm's way to the crown prince's fiance, is there anything you wish to say for yourself?"
Though I was compelled to speak, with my throat burning and dry, I could barely find it in me to even utter a single word.
Observing my silence, the executioner lifted his blade after muttering a small "very well,"
I squeezed my eyes shut and counted the seconds before the sharp blade went through my neck. As my head left my body and rolled across the platform, my blood seeped into a large pool, painting the wood of the platform red. Soon, the crowd dispersed after realising that there was nothing left to see.
