Laura

“Urgh,” Laura screamed loudly before flopping backwards onto her bed and squishing her face between one of the bright blue pillows.

"You are acting like a two-year-old having a temper tantrum," a boy's deep voice came from the doorway causing Laura to jump up, a small squeak escaping her mouth.

But on seeing who was standing in the doorway she promptly plopped back down on the bed and covered her face again while mumbling something about rude boys and not knocking.

“You're too cowardly to accept that you love me,” the boy laughed as he jumped on the bed beside her and yanked the pillow away from her face.

Laura scowled at him, “Well Austin,” she emphasized his name, “maybe that is because I don't love you”.

"Uhuh sure," he laughed again, eyes twinkling. “So why exactly are we having an emotional breakdown?”.

“Sarah wants me to go outside and socialise with real people, eew people,” Laura wrinkled her nose in fake disgust.

“I mean Sarah does have a point,” Austin pointed out.

“Easy for you to say Mr Wannabe Bad Boy, almost everyone in school is your friend,” Laura rolled her eyes.

“Yet you are my best friend,” he told her, raising his eyebrows.

“Weirdo, imagine choosing a mentally unstable orphan gamer girl as your best friend,” Laura laughed softly.

Laura had never known who were her real parents, she had lived in an orphanage for 9 years of her life and on her 10th Birthday, she was told she would be adopted by Mike and Sarah, even though she was ever thankful for them Laura couldn't ever see them as her real parents, because truth be told, they never felt like it.

Austin's talking brought Laura out of her thoughts “... Well I personally find it weird that the super cool popular gamer girl is friends with the leather jacket-wearing weirdo”.

“Austin,” Laura suddenly jumped up, "could you come with me? To socialise,” she made a disgusted face.

"Yeah sure, come on, let's go,” he said, grabbing her hand and yanking her off the bed with such surprising strength that Laura went stumbling into her cupboard.

"Thanks for that," Laura grumbled another frown adorning her eyebrows as she yanked her ankle-length leather black boots onto her feet.

“Anytime loser,” Austin retorted as he walked out of the bedroom, Laura begrudgingly following behind him, rolling her eyes.

“If you keep rolling your eyes they are bound to fall out of your head,” Austin’s voice came from down the passage.

“How do you even know I rolled my eyes?” she asked, pulling a face at Austin's back.

“Best friend senses,” Austin told her as he walked out the front door.

“Because that is something very real,” Laura said, hitting him on the back of his head.

“Ow!” Austin exclaimed, “but anyway where are we going?”

“One of the parks I guess? I've never been to the one on the southern side of town, let's go there maybe?”

"Ok wow, this place is the definition of gorgeous," Laura sighed looking around at the large park before her.
