Neveah looks at herself in the mirror applying Neosporin cream on her cheek. It had been a week since the cut was made and it has progressively healed. sometimes Neveah wondered if this is all life had in the cards for her, pain. everything in her life had been nothing but a series of unfortunate events, it seemed she just wasn't meant to be happy.
"I am superior to negative thoughts and low actions." She mutters rubbing it in.
"Everything that is happening now is happening for my ultimate good." She says parting her hair.
"I make a difference in the world simply by existing in it." She smiles softly, finishing her hair routine.
Those were some of the affirmations her mom made her do every morning when she was little, she still remembers her parents teaching her self love and to own her blackness with pride at such a young age but those lessons stayed with her. Every time she said them, it felt as if she was keeping a tradition alive and it never failed to make her feel a little less alone.
She did her everyday make-up before leaving through the back door since she caught Keisha sniffing white powder off the kitchen counter and Neveah knew her aunt wasn't the peachiest person to be around after taking coke. Neveah knew she was an addict from the moment she learned what the word meant.
She even offered to get her professional help once and it lead to the belt marks on her back.
It hurt her to watch her aunt ruin herself with drugs especially since she knew she wasn't always like this, Neveah remembered when she was the fun aunt; always taking her to amusement parks and sneaking her candy.
This wasn't her or maybe it was but All her efforts to help her failed so she knew she needed to cut ties with her as soon as she moved out.

"No girl I told Charles if he doesn't come get his child, he gone know sum tonight " Tina chuckles talking about her boyfriend whose she's steady on and off with.
"Didn't you say the baby wasn't his?" Nita, another stylist asks confused, mixing hair dye in a black bowl.
"Yeah but I don't give a fuck, I need someone to watch this kid" she pops her gum, using her long nails to scratch her old sew-in.
Oh wow, Neveah thought cutting the extra piece of the wig cap off her client's head.
Today was a fairly busy day, this was now Neveah's fourth client and it wasn't even twelve yet.
"Mmmm" Nita hums going back to her business.
After about thirty more minutes, she finished her client's hair and her schedule was clear so she decided to take her lunch break. She grabbed her beige tote bag with her money and laptop inside and exits the shop. she decided to head to the place she knows has free wifi: Starbucks.
Neveah entered the slightly busy coffee shop, determined to finish her assignment. Her eyes scan the cafe for an empty table until they land on a bar seat right next to an outlet. Perfect she thinks making her way there and setting up her computer.
She had already gotten a drink so she opened her laptop waiting for it to power on,unaware of the men in the corner taking pictures of her.
