CHAPTER 2 - THE FIRST MOVE

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The smell of dust and dirt filled Kagome's senses, and she slowly pushed her eyes open. Nearby she could hear music being played. Music from a harmonica. Putting a hand to her head she pushed herself up. It was then that she noticed her strange surroundings.
"Kyaaaa!" Kagome screamed. She was sprung into full consciousness as she took in the dusty little shack she had woken up in. Wasn't really much to see... dusty hardwood floor, spiderwebs, a sagging couch, a table with one chair (already occupied), and a dented refrigerator. She herself was now sitting up in a creaky old bed. A gasp escaped her lips and the harmonica playing stopped.
"I see you're awake," the fugitive girl Darcy said, and Kagome wasn't sure if she'd intended the pun. She set the harmonica she'd been playing down on the dusty table. The harmonica looked a little dusty, too.
Kagome stared at the girl, and her eyes slowly widened as she remembered everything that happened before she fainted.
"You..." Kagome said in a whisper, then raised her voice to shout, "You kidnapped me!"
Darcy laughed, "I didn't really kidnap you, but think of it more as me making the first move. I'm not dumb, Kagome. I don't need sight to know that the moment you recognized me you were already thinking of turning me in for the reward." The girl stood up and walked over to the bed. "And since I'm in no mood to be captured, I want you to hear my side of the story first. After that... I have all intentions of letting you go."
Kagome gulped. "And how do I know you're not lying?" Her voice was much more steady than she was feeling.
Darcy shrugged. "I guess it's up to you whether to believe me or not. Regardless of that, I've got a gun, you don't, and I plan on keeping you here until you've heard me out."
Kagome's eyes wandered to the gun at Darcy's hip. Her first thought was that it looked odd to see a girl her age wearing a gun. Her second thought was that it would probably be difficult for Darcy to aim the weapon. Her third thought was that she didn't want to test it. "May I at least ask where here is?" Frustration tinted her voice, but she wasn't about to yell at a fugitive with a gun.
"Here is an old shack I stumbled upon..." Darcy winced after answering Kagome's question. She might never have found this shack at all if she hadn't walked right into the damn thing, it was a surprise she hadn't broken her nose. "An old shack in the woods. Not that far from your home, and don't worry, I know the way back." Sure, she did.
There was no response at all from Kagome except for a long sigh.
Darcy frowned. "I happened to... stumble across the refrigerator too. There's food, in case you're hungry," she said, in an attempt to cheer Kagome up. She really liked the girl so far, the whole 'kidnap' thing was just necessary to ensure her own safety. Really, she didn't plan on hurting anyone. She never planned on that... but sometimes it happened anyway.
Kagome nodded, before remembering that Darcy was blind, and a nod was about as good as an underwater fire to her. "Ok," she said instead, getting slowly out of the bed and walking over to the refrigerator. Opening it up, she smiled that it was indeed full of food, and pulled out an apple. The apple was halfway to her mouth before a thought suddenly occured to her.
The refrigerator was full.
Someone had put food in it.
This shack was not as abandoned as she had first assumed.
The apple fell to the floor with a loud thunk, and Darcy glanced up at the noise. "What is it?"
Kagome turned to her, and was about to voice her thoughts when another thought occured to her.
Somebody lives here.
They would come back.
She would be saved.
"Nothing's wrong," Kagome said with a little smile, "I just dropped my apple."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Alright..." Darcy said, keeping her suspicion inside. Better Kagome think her a dim-witted blind girl than anything else. Of course she knew the shack wasn't abandoned, she wasn't that dull. But let the girl conspire, she had no plans of letting her get away just to call the police. "Look, I can bet you're eager to get home, and this is as good a time as ever. I can't guarantee that you'll believe my story, but I really have no choice. Kagome-"

She was interrupted by the sound of the door opening.
