Hayden pov.
We climb off our bus and begin our adventure. we walk across the almost empty road and enter our first destination. auntie Em's garden Emporium
it was a pretty much abandoned but covered in plants and life like statues.
"this place definitely needs an extreme makeover." Grover jokes as we walk inside the building with a large welcome sign above the door.
"hello?" Percy calls into the building but gets met with silence.
"hello? anyone home in Auntieville." Grover says after him and walks around with his crutches. at the reception desk there was an old dusty cooler which Grover walks over to. "hey, check this out. they got free sodas"
He opens the lid but screams when he sees its filled with rats. the lid slams shut and he backs away quickly.
"okay. that's nasty. the health department needs to give this place an F" he wipes his hand on his jacket as if it were contaminated. I laugh a little and look out one of the windows but see nobody apart from statues.
"hey, guys, check this out." we follow annabeth into a conservatory area. as we walk there Percy touches some windcjines which made a nice sound echo the empty halls.
there was an old water fountain with rusty pennies at the bottom.
"look at this." Annabeth dips her hands into the water and scoops up a handful of penies and shows them to us. "Gold Drachmas."
"that means we're on the right track" Grover smile. Annabeth hands me the pennies and I place them in my backpack for safe keeping.
"how are we gonna find a pearl in this place?" I ask glancing around as if it would help find it.
"okay, let's split up. check everything." Percy says which we all agree is the best plan.
"im going this way." Grover points back the way we came.
"ill go this way" Annabeth goes the opposite way. there's only one way left to go and two of us.
"we can both go this way." Percy says noticing my awkward look. I smile a little and walk with him.
We walk through the garden area and see there's even more statues than before. but they don't look like normal statues. like little Greek kids in robes or buff guys flexing. these looked like real people frozen in time or something.
"hey, Hayden?" Percy snaps me out of my thoughts. I nod and look at him. "why did you want to come with us? it's a lot safer at camp"
"your the first friend I've ever had, Percy. I don't want you getting hurt." I say briefly while looking around. "do you mind that I came?"
