I don't know when it started.
If I'm being completely honest, I'll tell you that it probably started when I was asleep, since I don't remember it happening before that. But all that crying, all that fear, that was only the awake grief. The nightmares struck at night.
I remember Fluttershy waking me up gently, telling me that I was crying in my sleep. My friends were starting to wake up and were rubbing their eyes, asking what was going on. Since Fluttershy had been the one who had been sleeping next to me, she had been the first one to wake up. But I was numb. I was still seeing my father being crushed again and again by a car, like I had seen in my mind.
I remember grabbing Mr. Snuggles and dashing out of the bedroom and into the bathroom. I didn't care if anyone needed to pee. I heard my friends' voices as they registered what had just gone on and came after me, but I had already locked the door.
"Dashie, Darling, please," Rarity begged. "We can't help you if you shut yourself up like this."
"But I don't want your help!" I retorted, feeling worse when my voice echoed back to me from the walls. "Just leave me alone already!"
"But Rainbow," AJ insisted. "Ya need someone to be with ya, someone who'll understand ya. Ya can't go on bottlin' things up. It's just gonna feel worse. Trust me, ah know."
I knew she did. She had lost both her parents, hadn't she? But the only one who really understood was Soarin. Fluttershy was a really good friend, don't get me wrong, but she was always a bit intimidated by my dad's hulking figure. She spent more time with my mom. But Soarin, my dad was practically his second. He was literally the only person besides my mom who actually spent that much time with him. He would be like a brother if I didn't fall in love with him first. I buried my face in my knees.
After a moment, however, I interrupted Egghead's coaxing. Something was off. "Wait, where's Fluttershy?" I asked. She usually was the one who actually got me to get out, and they knew that. So why wasn't she here?
"She went to get someone that she said we don't know that she said was what you needed that she said what Apple Jack meant!" Pinkie Pie said in her usual cheery manner. My heart sank into my... well, my butt, I guess, since it was the lowest part of me at that moment.
Fluttershy was going to get Soarin, wasn't she?
(Sunset's POV)
I didn't really understand why Fluttershy had disappeared to get someone at three AM. I mean, I know Rainbow's in a bad rut, but her mom was busy and her aunt was begging Rainbow to get out with the rest of our best friends, so who was there to get? If you're asking me why I didn't see anything with my geode, it's because that it doesn't show all of someone's memories. And I didn't quite think that Fluttershy was going to get Rainbow's soccer coach so that she could scream at her to get herself together. (AKA Spitfire)
Rainbow's sobbing had quieted down somewhat, I guess, because we could no longer hear her through the bathroom door. I heard the front door open and Fluttershy's soft footsteps, along with someone's heavier ones. "Fluttershy's back!" I told my friends hopefully. They looked towards the stairway as Fluttershy's pink hair came up. She smiled at us.
"I got him to come," she said with a big smile. I stared at her. Him? Did that mean that Rainbow's dad was not in such a bad condition after all? Did that mean that this would finally be over? My hopes were crushed immediately when I saw who came up the stairs after her. Navy-blue hair, sky-blue skin. I was surprised that the usual smirk was gone.
"Soarin Skies," I deadpanned. "Rainbow's soccer teammate."
Fluttershy giggled nervously. I saw Rarity turn red. "Fluttershy! Why would you bring him here, when Rainbow is obviously falling apart! Don't you have any respect for her reputation?"
"It's not like that!" Fluttershy said as a retort, which obviously meant that her voice was still barely audible even though she had something close to THE STARE on her face. "He knows more about her than you think. Please, give him a chance."
"Ah chance to take a pic of mah best friend and post it on tha school paper?" Apple Jack demanded. "Ah don't think so."
"Ladies, please," Soarin said, trying to calm them down. I noticed his eyes were red. Weird. "I'd never hurt Rainbow, I promise. She's my best friend too."
I think that I was about to throw back some kind of retort when the sound of the door opening caught everyone's attention. Rainbow stood in the hallway, her teddy bear under one arm and her face streaked with tears. She looked up at the intruder. "Soarin?" She asked tentatively.
(A/N: Mwahhahahaha! Cliff hanger! I always wanted to do something like that. I feel eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeviiiiiiiiiiiiiiil.)
