'You WHAT?!'

I nodded my head, grinning smugly.

'I do not believe you.'

'Wanna bet?'

'YEP!'

I held out my hand. McKenzie was not reluctant to do so. We shook, and the deal was sealed. My best friend didn't beleive I had spoken to Justin Bieber over the Internet. I totally see where she's coming from. But it's true. I never lie.

She sat back onto the bench, and crossed her arms. 'I still don't believe you.'

I grinned smugly again. 'You'll be sorry. And I won't be.'

'Hm.' She flicked back her horse-like black feathery hair, and gazed across the oval.

McKenzie Cote is a new best friend to me - but she's the best best friend I've had by far. She hates her full name "McKenzie", so insists I call her Ken. It's even worse than McKenzie, but she insists.

'Hey guys,' flustered Melina. She quickly sat down, dropping all of her books as well. 'Oh, shoot.'

'Why do you always have to pop up all the time?' asked Ken, leaning forward again. She didn't dislike her un-identical twin sister, just didn't want Melina to be around her and her friends at school all the time.

'I'm just doing a polite thing and saying hello,' said Melina, finally collecting her books and sitting down peacefully. Mel looked nothing like Ken - hence the un-identical thing. But she did have the same horse-like feathery hair, except in a dark but rich red colour. Funky pink-rimmed glasses squared her eyes. Both the Cote girls were stunning, and I envied their looks.

'Oi, Mel. Get this,' said Ken. 'Lacey reckons she talked to Justin Bieber on the Internet yesterday!'

Mel looked at me, straight-faced at first, but cocked one eye-brow.

'For sure?'

'Fo' sure.'

The school bell sounded across the gardens and grounds of Merrymount High School. Mel shrugged. 'Well, if she says so. I've gotta go, I have a biology test. Catchya guys.'

'Catch,' said Ken coolly.

'What happens if I win the bet?' asked Ken.

'I'll give you a million dollars,' I said promptly. 'What happens if I win?'

'You can take me to see Justin Bieber,' said Ken.

'Wh-no, I don't think so-.'

'Backing out are you?' she teased.

'No. Definately not.'

'You better start gathering together that million bucks.'

'Unlikely!'

We softly punched our knuckles together, and we headed off to our different classes.

Somehow, I always managed to rock up to English class late. Mrs. Manning was always early, and everyone else in my class were stuck up nerds and goodie too-shoes, or were threatned with detention if they weren't in class by the second bell.

'What's happening, Mrs. Manning?' I said. She hated that. I got enjoyment out of it.

She huffed, and gave me a stern look. 'Sit down please, Miss Broadford.'

I hated being called "Miss". It made me sound old.

Mrs. Manning wrote a three letter word on the whiteboard, insde quotation marks. "Pop". 'Pop! Pop singers, pop music. Modern pop music. Name me some.'
