Arlo's POV:

Arlo was walking to school alone as John had left to get something from his apartment. The second Arlo entered the school he was greeted by a bubbly pink haired girl. Remi.

"Hey Arlo! What'd you do on the weekend?" Remi asked, smiling widely.
"Nothing." Arlo replied.
"Oh. How about next week you and I go somewhere with Blyke and Isen. The mall or the café maybe?....." Remi asked, her good mood still strong.
"No thank you." Arlo replied, once again short and simple.
"Then how about w-"Remi started but Arlo cut her off.
"I have to get to class. Bye Remi." Arlo said as he walked away.

Arlo felt bad about leaving Remi like that but he knew he couldn't get too close to her. It would only make it hurt more if- when she leaves. Arlo knows Remi will leave him sooner or later. Everyone does. He's accepted it now though.

Arlo goes to class and studies history for a couple of hours. Once all of his lessons are done he goes home.
**************************

On his way home Arlo is greeted by the sight of John waiting at his apartment door.

"What're you doing here?" Arlo asks.
"They know." John said as Arlo unlocked his door and went inside.
"Know what?" Arlo replied quickly.
"That I'm Joker. The whole fucking school knows!....." John shouted.
"Oh....." was all Arlo could say.

"'Oh?!' That's all you have to say?! You're fucking useless!" John shouted.

Arlo didn't expect to feel so hurt by those words but he was.
"I know." Arlo replied with a smirk.
John looked taken aback by the answer but he quickly regained his composure. "I'm sorry. I'm just angry. I didn't mean that." John said quickly.

Arlo nodded before getting changed in his room. Once Arlo was changed he got a call. His phone was outside of his room so he quickly pulled his new shirt down. Arlo left to see his phone and saw that John was holding it.

"Who is it?" Arlo asked as he walked up to John.
"Your parents." John replied, sounding annoyed. Arlo was surprised. His parents rarely called so it must have been something important.

Arlo picked up the phone and John stayed behind the phone seeing as they were FaceTiming.

"Hey mom, hey dad." Arlo greeted.
"'Hey mom? Hey dad?!' What on Earth is wrong with you?! It's ma'am and sir." His mom replied, sounding disgusted.
"Right. I apologise ma'am and sir."
"We've been letting you have too much freedom." Arlo's dad interrupted.
"I'm sorry for disrespecting you." Arlo apologised once more.
"Look at you! You've gotten fat! And somehow uglier too!" His mom said and at that they started laughing.

"We called to see if there was any progress. We have to keep up our look with the press and company. Are you still training?"
"Yes ma'am."
"Are you sure? You seem fatter than ever."
"I am sure."
"You're meant to be strong! You look so weak! You and your friends!" Arlo's dad added.
"I'm sorry."
"You're so ugly." Arlo's mom laughed as she gagged.

Arlo nearly broke his facade but stayed smiling.

"Do you think you're ever gonna fall in love looking like that?! You are so useless! Why did we ever have you?! You're a problem! A burden! How did we put up with you?! With those looks and IQ we may have to pay someone to marry you!!!" Arlo's dad ranted and by the end they were both laughing their heads off.

"Thank you sir." Arlo answered, albeit slightly strained.
"Was that sarcasm? Do you want us come over there?! We were taking it easy on you when you were a kid. You know very well how much pain we can put you in. So speak to us with respect." Arlo's mom said darkly.
