Joy's Pov
It was a Saturday just like any other. We spent the whole day in church! How was I supposed to know that it was my lucky day? I picked my bag up and my Bible to leave but my mother called me. She handed me over some few things of hers since she would be staying a little longer to close up. Just as I was stepping outside the church I saw a familiar face. An extremely handsome familiar face.
Had this boy been so handsome before? He was a childhood acquaintance. Yes! Not a friend, since we didn't really talk that much. I doubt we even greeted one another. He turned to leave and I called him and gave him a disapproving look. He should have at least said hello. I mean we weren't friends but I thought back to one event and thought that we had bonded...

It was two years earlier. I had been on holiday from school. Our church district had just started a seminar program for the youth in April. My father had practically dragged my ass there and bought me chips and sausage on the way to agree to attend. Anyway, the seminar that we referred to as a youth camp turned out to be fun after all. Some of the youths slept there but most of us came from home for the one week. One day, at night, the lights went off. The technician, who was also my friend Kevin, tried to work on the lights but it proved difficult since it was raining. So the preacher couldn't preach without a microphone because of the noise from the rain. That was about 8:00pm since their is always a night sermon before heading home. We stayed for about one hour like that and we were not even disturbed since it was raining so no one could go home. And we weren't even in the dark since everyone's phone was on.
So eventually the lights came back at around 9pm and the pastor that had been invited still preached no kidding! So by the time we were leaving it was almost 10:00 at night. I didn't like the girls my dad had assigned me to go home with so I kinda ran away from them and somehow, I ended up with Enoch.
The worst thing was that by the time we got through Kangemi market the slipper-like shoes I had on me were cut so I was cruising through the yucky mud without any shoes. When we got to the bus stop we found the tours asking for double price what I expected so I refused to get in. Looking back, that was dumb. I guess Enoch contemplated leaving me to walk all the way home alone at 10:00 pm and decided to walk with me.
My home was far, but his home was farther and it didn't help that I didn't have shoes on me. It only made us walk slower as I avoided the rocks and the pieces of glass on the road. So by the time we got to the bus stop close to my home my mom was waiting for me and he had to walk the rest of the distance alone and as I was saying... we had bonded.

"Eish! Unaendaje bila kunisalimia?" I asked him and he chuckled lowly but came back to greet me. ( Why are you leaving without greeting me?)- Kiswahili. We ended up making small talk as I walked him towards the nearest bus stop which was farther and farther away from my home which happened to be directly opposite my church. We talked of various things like the fact that I had just finished my high school, despite the challenge of the corona virus.
He told me that he had finished his university two years earlier and I put one foot in front of him to get a look at him, like was he serious? While doing that I forgot what I was looking at him for in the first place and just noticed his height. Boy was he tall! I knew I had a liking for tall boys but damn was his height driving me crazy.
So get this! We got to the bus stop and I had to go back home now. However, all I was thinking about is that I wanted to talk to him again. Then he said, "Aya! Si tutaongea baadaye!" (Talk to you later!) and I thought your not going anywhere boy without my number.
"I actually don't have your number..." I said knowing that he'd have no option but to give it to me.
"Aaam! Take it!" He said. Bingo! Step one accomplished.
"My phone! I actually don't have my phone with me!" I faked because ladies don't take guys numbers. I would let him have my number then if he called or texted me then I would know he was also interested.
When he texted the next day I couldn't believe how lucky I was, but then I had to keep my cool and not overtext. We didn't talk much until after he posted his status and I replied. It was something like this... ' If you like me just tell me' So I replied asking him if I should just tell him I liked him or he just posted it for the sake of filling his status.
I was hoping he'd take it as a joke in case he didn't like me. Which was obviously the case because there's no way a guy as hot as him liked me, right? But then turned out he did and we became friends although in my head we were way more than that. Well a couple of weeks later he proposed to me to be his girlfriend - I thought I was his girlfriend way before - and I obviously said yes. But that was way after I told him about all of my thousands of ex's and he told me about the only two he'd had.
It was only later that I realised that his first girlfriend would be a threat if she ever came back. I couldn't quite believe that they had dated for six years straight and they didn't even break up. She just moved away and the distance broke them apart. Talk about soulmates.
His second girl though was a jerk and I kinda felt bad for her since she'd lost Enoch because she cheated on him. Anyway, wherever she was God bless her soul since I wouldn't have become his girlfriend if not for her breaking his heart sooo... I wasn't complaining much.
One of the many things I loved about Enoch was how serious he was about us. About me! He was the first boyfriend who wanted to know what I expected from a relationship, what were my likes and dislikes, what he was allowed to do or what not to do to me. Basically he was the best boyfriend ever.
Running a list of things I liked about him would be....
His height- I generally loved tall guys.
His caring nature
His maturity- While I was typically the most immature person.
His funny side... How is someone so mature and funny at the same time.
His smile
etc...Basically, the more time we spent together, the more dates we went on, the harder I fell for him - for no apparent reason!
Hello there lovelies... hope your good.
Writing this chapter was the best because everything I wrote here is word for word what has been happening between me and my boyfriend in our young relationship.
Yap, his name is Enoch and am Joy sooo... but now am gonna start the story so we can get to the mafia already. So from here onward, no more me and Enoch in real life, just my characters now.
Love you, please vote, comment- positive vibes and share.
xoxo.
