"There has been a fatal accident at Kikuyu. Kikuyu Private Hospital is full, no more admissions and Kenyatta National Hospital is too far for some of the victims so we're receiving them here. Treat first, questions on payments later! We have to be ready when they come, everybody move! Move!" Everybody moved to their respective positions so the hospital was in chaos. Enoch was impressed by the director's words. Most of the times they were forced by circumstances to watch as people died due to lack of money."Enoch, come here!" The director called him just as he was about to move to the Emergency Room. "Thank you so much for coming in! I know you're on leave and all but you understand that all the other anaesthetics stay far..."
"I understand sir!" he replied curtly as was his normality.
"Thanks! Thanks! We're going to be seriously checking on that distance factor after this emergency. Alright kid! Go get ready." The director dismissed him.
Still on his way to the Emergency room he heard the ambulance sirens. The accident victims had already started arriving so he hurried up.
"Tsk! Tsk! Excuse! Excuse!" came the voice of someone from behind him. He could tell they were pushing someone on a gurney so he moved to the corner to let them pass through. When they passed he saw that they were pushing a pregnant woman who seemed to be unconscious.
As the medic who was blocking him from seeing the woman's face moved to open the door, he saw the woman and immediately froze in his tracks.
Joy! The same Joy who dissapeared three months ago! Oh no! Had she been involved in the accident. All of a sudden, his feet became weak and he fell to the ground just as the director's voice boomed in his ears.
"Enoch! ER, right now! Enoch!Enoch! Are you alright? Are you alright son?" he asked again and again but Enoch just couldn't find his voice to answer.
"Kate! Call some back up! We've got one doctor down!" the director shouted at the nearest doctor. By this time Enoch was a goner, he couldn't even hear the conversation happening right next to him.
"What's wrong with Enoch? He seems okay. I mean, his eyes are open!" Kate asked nosily!
"Heavens gracious, where did you even do your medicine from? And who employed you to my hospital? You know what Kate, just get me another man! Shoo! Shoo! Go!" He shooed her away.
"Geez! I was just asking! He is my boyfriend anyway," she said and left.
What is wrong with some people? Doesn't this girl know that it is against the hospital policy for doctors to get involved in romantic relationships. No way Enoch is dating this dumb girl. The director thought to himself. Every lady did want Enoch after all.
"What has happened to you boy?" He asked aloud, mostly himself as he was sure Enoch couldn't hear him.
He was in a state of shock!
