Amber rolls over. She still looks exhausted. "Camping?," Mumbles Amber. "Yeah! Remember?" Izzie says excitedly. Izzie's peppy attitude is too much for Amber to handle at 6:00 am in the morning.
Reluctantly, she rolls out of bed. Izzie's bag is packed, tent folded and stored, hair brushed, and fishing pole ready. "I almost forgot!" Izzie squeals. She pulls out a book. Wyoming Stories and Legends, it reads. " Do you really have to bring that?" Amber asks. " Haven't you packed heavy enough?" Izzie starts flipping through the pages of her book. " Cryptids" she says. "What's a cryptid?" Amber wonders. "It's a type of monster, like Bigfoot!" Izzie declared as she flips to the next section.
"Gho-" Izzie was cut off by her mom calling her and her sister downstairs. "Come on girls! I sure hope you both packed well!" Amber forgot to pack! She rushed over to her closet and grabbed 4 comfy outfits, some jeans, a sweater, lip balm, her toothbrush, a hairbrush, her phone, journal, and bedding. " Ready!" She said, out of breath. Amber and Izzie ran down the stairs, and breakfast was waiting for them. They finished quickly, and loaded into the car. The trunk was filled to the brim with luggage, firewood, tents, fishing rods, and food. Amber pulls out her phone.Where are you Amber? We're going out for ice cream later! Too bad you're missing out ;)
Amber! You're missing the big game! All the other volleyball players miss you!
Amber! Babe! I haven't seen you in forever! Come back!
Amber sighs as she replies to her friend, coach, and boyfriend who all wish she was there. She could use a break. She puts her phone down and drifts off to sleep.
Izzie pulls out her phone too. Nothing much to do there.
Izzie sighs as she rests her phone in the cup holder. She sees Amber sleeping. Classic Amber. Izzie is not one to sleep in car rides. Or any ride for that matter. If I blink, I miss something! She thought. Not much worth seeing here anyway. Just cities, buildings, cars, and people. Some dogs, she usually points cute animals and cool sightings to Amber, but Amber is asleep; there goes her entire plan. She looks out the window, watching the grass whiz by. She wishes Amber were awake. She wanted to talk to her. Maybe play a game."Wake up!" Izzie and Amber's mom shouts. "We're here!"
Amber groans and slowly lifts her head to look out the window. A blanket of mist hung over the trees. A tall mountain towering over the land. Everything was green. Amber smiled. I could get used to this, she thought.Izzie sprung up from her comfy blanket nest, wide awake and glad to be. She didn't take the time to notice that they passed a sign, marking their campsite. Everything was so fresh. It smelled like pine, lakes, and- cinnamon!
They pulled up to the campsite and started putting the tents up when a small voice said, hello? Can you help me? Izzie looks around for the source of the voice. Nobody else seemed to hear it. Izzie was never one to turn down an opportunity to help a stranger in need! The voice sounds like it came from the trees behind her. She began to venture in the woods behind the campsite. As she walks deeper and deeper, she stops. Something grabbed her necklace. She turns around to see a tree branch tightly latched on her necklace. Pesky trees, Izzy huffed and tried to pull the necklace from the branch. All of a sudden, her legs lost all strength and she fell to her knees on the ground. A soft humming noise started. It sounded like people talking, but she could not make out what they were saying. The sound got closer and closer, the voices deeper and deeper, but she could still not decipher what they were saying. Her head was spinning as she tried to stand. The leaves were moving, despite there being no wind. Izzie felt very uneasy. She tried to call for Amber, but she couldn't make a sound. It got dark all of the sudden, and she fell unconscious.
Some 5-10 minutes later, Izzie woke up back at the campsite, as if that entire thing had been only a bad dream. She felt her neck, her necklace was gone! She sits up and looks around. Amber finishes putting up her tent. What's wrong? She asks. "My- my necklace-" she could barely speak. Well I didn't take it! Amber sighs and starts to put her stuff in her tent. Izzie finally gathered the strength to stand. She spots something glitter in the corner of her eye. She begins walking over, still feeling shaky from the 'experience'. She picks it up. It's her necklace! Someone, or something ripped it in half.
Suddenly the Wyoming woods didn't look so peaceful anymore. The mist was getting closer and closer to the campsite. She could still hear the humming in the back of her head. 9:00 her watch read. It was late. She begins to load her things into her tent. Amber turns to her and says " you're not scared, are you?" " N-no. I'm not scared!" Izzie says, her voice trembling "why would I be scared?!" " I don't know. You seem a little, uptight" Amber crawls into her tent. Izzie does the same. Where are mom and dad? Izzie thinks. She unzips the tent window and looks out. Ah there they are. Already in their tent. Izzie is not tired but she manages to fall asleep anyway, the humming still going.
