Sylvie felt her world stop for a moment, spin on itself and come back to her. Sylvie? she liked that name, it feels easy to whisper, like it would need only one breath to say out loud. So much better than Loki she thought, and her head felt the weight of life leave, something in her chest broke and fled, and now it was empty; no not empty, there was something there expanding so fast and wide she felt it in the back of her throat before her mind could form a word.
The tears ran free and wild, she felt so full of them she might explode. Her knees met the floor before the small wooden dragon rolled out of her hands, its sound echoing on her golden walls, in her head.
"Glorious purpose" her hand to her face "I understand"
A life, she would get to live a full life. Her thought felt like a pleading, full of messages of hope and love and trust, a distant voice, an eco between her head and thought. But it was there and it felt more real than her own existence, she closed her eyes and let them cover her, uncover her, cradle her mind like her mother around a fire. Her mother, her family, Thor.
"Sister!" She heard in the distance, the loud and familiar sound of her kin. Small fast taps echoed from the metal and the weight of a body slammed her door open. A small blond figure entered with his own small winged horse and a smile that linger in his eyes.
"We were supposed to play Valkyries!" his posture changed immediately when he saw his sister's tears. His eyes darted to every corner of the room, looking for the enemy who dared to sadden his kin.
"If someone has hurt you I-"
"No!" she stood up cleaning her face "no, it's not hurt brother"
She turned around and let her eyes get lost in the horizon, the gold reflection from her Asgard to the greens that surround it, the mountains and sea and looming darkness of beyond. She was home, and yet there was something missing.
"I think I've made an important decision," she tuned around to face Thor, her brother, oh how long has it been since she'd thought of his name, "I've chosen my new title, know me from today as Sylvie"
"Sylvie! your name will resonate from the voices of your warriors" his hand held the winged horse to the sky, and his laugh soothed the rest of the tightness in her chest. She picked up her dragon and charged to her brothers armies.
The laughs of children resonated in the palace, and somewhere in the distance Loki let some of his hurt show in his face, for a fraction of a second he wore his feelings out in the open, how much he was going to miss her, how long she waited to live her own life, this time right and free and however she wanted. Their lives were meant to find each other again if they choose to, someday in the future, if she remembers him. But now it was his time to come back to his own timeline, and maybe get to live his own life however he chose to.
