Cath stopped typing and stared at her screen. Fuck. What WAS it called? She needed to remember, she had told her readers that this chapter would be up before tomorrow, and it was very near 10 PM.
Cath sprung off of her crinkled duvét and delved into her new bookcase. (She had been hinting to Reagan about wanting a bookcase for a while, and after some arguments about fitting, and DEFINITELY professional diagrams on the back of napkins, she managed to persuade her.)
Where was it? The Second Serpent was there, along with The Third Gate and the rest of the series, just not the first one!
"Reagan?" Cath called. "Have you seen my Simon Snow book?"
"Maybe..." Reagan replied. "I thought they were all kept on your bookshelf?"
"That's where I keep them, but The Mage's Heir is missing! I know you've seen it!"
"I don't know Cath."
"LEVI HAS IT!"
"What? How the fuck did you work that out?"
"Deduction! You obviously don't have it, and Wren doesn't have a key to the flat - I think she has copies of the books anyway, so it must be Levi!"
Reagan sighed and furrowed her eyebrows. "How did you know it wasn't Nick? You're friends with him, right?"
Cath stuck out her tongue and made a disgusted sound. "Nope."
Reagan sighed again, and decided to not question Cath.
"He's in the library across the campus. Don't tell him it was me he told you he took it. He didn't want you to find out."
Cath nodded, and pushed open the door. She shoved on a pair of ugg boots and a jacket, picked up her keys, and walked out, gently shutting the door behind her.
Cath half-walked, half-ran across the dim, streetlight scattered campus, making sure she had 911 ready typed in if she needed too. Old habits die hard.
When she got to the library, she walked in slowly and quietly. Gazing around, she saw a pair of black converse and a gold quiff over in the corner.
She tiptoed towards him and looked over onto the page. "Not a book person, huh?"
Levi jumped and looked up. "Cather? What are you doing here?" He began to hide the cover of the book with his large hands, but decided it was pointless. As if Cath wouldn't recognise a Simon Snow book.
"My book was missing." Cath replied simply. Levi gestured beside him and shifted to the side a little, so Cath awkwardly sat on the floor next to him. "I'm sorry," she apologised, "I don't exactly have the thinnest hips."
Levi shook his head at her and smiled. "You fit perfectly." Cath grinned and peered to the book's open page.
"You're only on chapter 3? You are a slow reader."
"Hey!" He replied in mock hurt. "It's a good chapter. See, they've just found out they're roommates and it's re-"
"Remember who you're talking to, Levi?" Cath interrupted and grinned.
"Well, Simon and Baz are really cute together." Levi grinned back, and rested his forbear on hers, planting a single kiss on her lips.
Smiling, she stood up. "I need to go back and finish writing the chapter..."
Levi stood up too, and murmured a question.
"Sorry, what?" Cath asked.
He looked down at her with big eyes and asked "Can I help?".
