Here's 5 Makoto Shinkai films, although one is an ad for studying exams.

1. Your Name

Your Name is the first Shinkai film I saw. It's a great story of a country girl, who seeks to be a handsome Tokyo boy in the her next life, and a Tokyo guy.

The two of them switch bodies and well things happen.

Go watch it.

9/10

Great music, I loved the plot, and everything was beautiful.

My only downside is, it was a little hard to determine who was in who's body at times...

2. Weathering With You

The second Shinkai movie I watched was Weathering With You. A boy runs away from home to Tokyo where he tries to make a living there.

He finds himself a job writing stories and meets a girl who can change the rain to sunshine. However they learn about the fate of the sunshine girl and try to reverse it.

Honestly this is a 8.5/10. It's not as good as Your Name, but it's really hard to top that anyways.

Weathering With You somehow managed to look even cleaner than Your Name from the Tomato to the Fireworks Festival.

Also the soundtrack is incredible from Is there still anything love can do, to Grand Escape.

The downside is that it didn't leave me with a huge impact like Your Name.

There weren't many emotional scenes until the end and I didn't even feel like crying...

3. 5 Centimeters Per Second

This one is a landmine to a lot. A lot of people will say it's really boring which it kind of is.

This film is technically broken up to three episodes, but they're all the same plot.

Two childhood friends are moving away from each other and might not be able to see each other again.

The boy decides its time to confess his feelings so he boards a train to see her one more time...

While episode 2 is boring the first and last episode is what really slaps.

Plus the ending song, One more time one more chance is incredible.

Also did I forget to mention it looks beautiful for a 2009 movie.

Overall a 7/10 because episode 2 shows a little side romance that was really tiring.

4. The Garden of Words

Okay this is really nice because it's only 45 minutes long.

But The Garden of Words is a beautiful movie with incredible animation.

It's plot is centered around a boy who skips school when it rains to go to the garden. He meets a girl older than he is and they begin to talk.

Thus making it the Garden of Words.

Overall 8/10, it was pretty emotional in a happy way and well, I thought it was a great movie.

Also the ending made me feel warm inside. It was very wholesome.

5. Cross Road

This 2 minute trailer was really awesome I had to admit. Shinkai was promoting the idea of studying for your exams so it pays off when he made this.

It was mostly a commercial to motivate people to study but from the plot and characters, this seemed like it'd be a great movie.

Overall an 8/10 from me!

Next time I'll be doing something about Kyoto Animation!

Be safe! Mask up! Don't be stupid!
