In a time long ago, America was known as Akeidia. Akedia was the country of nature. It had many gorgeous forests and waterfalls, But the princess was the most beautiful of all of them. . She had dark, flowing hair, bright green eyes, and golden skin. The royal family of Akedia consisted of the king, Mario, The queen, Cecelia, The princess' little sister, Abigail, And the princess, Chivon Sage. 1496, Chivon is 16. "Mother, Where is father?" Asks a confused Chivon in her nightgown. "Y-your father has been.." "He has fallen during the battle with Spain." Chivon stared at her mother with tears starting to fall down her cheeks. "H-h-he d-died?" "Yes honey, I am so sorry." Queen Cecelia reaches out to hug Chivon and she comes running into her arms. She sobs, because she had a very strong connection with her father, as any girl would have during this horrible war time. The next morning as she breaks the news to her little sister, The moment is almost re-lived. Abigail stares at the princess, gives her a sorrowful nod, And makes her way down to the royal kitchens. Chivon would head down as well, But she was not hungry. Full of grief, she lays down on her bed and stares at the ceiling. "I love you father. And I always will." She lies there until dinner is being served, Where she forces herself to eat. The queen has been so hardened by the death of her beloved, Her voice sounds like the cold, thrashing sounds of unbelievable grief as she raises her glass. "To Mario, A lawful king, A loyal husband, And an amazing father." You could almost see the tears she was ruthlessly fighting behind her eyes. As Chivon starts up the grand staircase in the palace after dinner, Her mother catches her attention. "Please wait." Chivon feels almost empty as she replies. "Yes mother?" "Your father's death has been announced. His funeral is scheduled for tomorrow.." Her voice breaks as she trails off. "That was all." She quickly passes Chivon on her way up the stairs and Chivon decides to oppose her earlier decision and head to the royal garden. She has always been at home there. She sits on a marble bench in a circle of flower beds containing white roses and daisies. She has an idea. She quickly runs to get her paints and a canvas. She comes back to the garden with her materials and manages to stay awake until daylight. When she was finished, She was extremely tired. She takes the project with her as she slowly walks to her bedroom. She falls asleep in her dress with the painting still in her arms. She awakes to her sister calling to her from the main floor. "We're going to be late!" Her sister yells as her voice signifies she is trying to hide the overwhelming sadness that comes with losing a parent. "I'm on my way!" Chivon loudly yells as she tries to get ready. This was a lie. She put on a black dress and black flats. She french braids her hair and inserted a daisy in the strands at the front of her braid. Daisies were King Mario's favorite flowers, Everyone knew. When she settles into the carriage, Her family seems empty. She would expect them to be grief-stricken as she was. But she was strong, And she knew she would get through this. As they arrive at the royal burial ground, she gives a small smile while walking through the crowd to get to the spot where the king would be buried. The funeral starts as the country's anthem plays softly. Her mother gives a tear jerking speech and says her goodbyes. When it is my turn, I have nothing to say. As I step onto the platform where my fathers coffin lies, Dark green with gold designs and trimming, I give all the people of my country a nod and I place the painting of the roses and daisies on his coffin. I place the daisy in my hair onto his heart, Wave him a kiss, and sadly step off of the platform. When my family and relatives have said their goodbyes, My fathers coffin is at last lowered into the ground. Tears fall down my cheeks but I stay strong, For my family, for my country, And for Mario. I sigh and step back into the carriage when the moment is over. One year later, 1497, Chivon is 17. Chivon wakes up to the chiming of church bells and gentle bird song. She starts her normal routine, Brushing her hair and teeth, Picking out an outfit. She decides on a dark green strapless dress with floral designs. She walks down to royal kitchens earlier than usual and eats her breakfast. She grabs her journal and walks to the garden. She picks her normal spot of the marble bench with the roses and daisies. She sits there for a while listening to the birdsong, And then she notices something. She notices some roses on the other side of the garden. She walks over to them and finds that they do not have thorns. "White with no thorns." She says with a smirk. She walks back to the castle and strides through the ever-growing hallways. She hears the church bells once again after visiting the library and walks back to her room to change for dinner. She wears a gown the same color as her dress before with thick straps draped across her shoulders and tiny gold sparkles all over. She keeps her flats as she has never been good at walking in heeled shoes. She walks down to the dining hall to be greeted by her family. ~ My mother makes her normal toasts and we pray and offer to the gods. She then makes an announcement that changed my life forever. "Next week we will have visitors. The royal family of France is coming to visit our country. I advise you two to be polite." She sounded harsh and cold, But you could also hear a tinge of gratefulness in her voice, As France helped us in the war against Spain. I then finished my dinner irregularly fast and rushed to my room. I couldn't believe it. My mother letting other royals enter our kingdom only a year after my father's death. I entered denial as I changed into my silk nightgown and laid down. I was in shock. The next morning, I woke up and got dressed, and quietly ate breakfast alone, courtesy of the food service butlers. I didn't go to the garden that day, I simply stayed in my room again until dinnertime. This continued the next 6 days until Sunday. I wore a simple green halter dress with a pleated bottom to our orthodox ceremony and I didn't talk to my family on the carriage ride home. I changed into my favorite short gown with a light pattern of sorts and my hairdresser plaited my hair into a very high bun. We rode in the white and green carriage to the docks where we would greet our company for the next 3 weeks.
